opening day of deer season

well its that time again, opening day of the firearms portion of deer season for us Missourians, im about to embark on a journey ive taken since i was 11 yrs old, im now 18..good ol tradition..luckily my journey is about 150 yards to my treestand from my front door..its still a good spot though..i got online to see what the weather might be like today, thought id see if there are any other hunters on here.

currently 54 degrees with highs today in the low 70s

something about hunting in jeans and a t-shirt is just wrong, but thats exactly what ill be doing later today.

well itll be light soon, wish me luck, its about time i get a good buck, the only buck ive got is a spike i shot my 2nd year, which i now regret, as i either shoot does or a trophy buck now...but as hot as it is im not even going to shoot does..so its a big rack or nothin'!

Must be a nice luxary to say that you will pass deer up. I've been hunting since Oct. 1st (with a bow...calm down lol) and have had no such luck.

My mom got a deer last week before gun season opened, only it was with her car instead of a bow :x

I'm tellin you guys, if you wanna get a deer, you need a deere. I've seen 5-10 almost every night I've shelled corn this fall. They're not afraid of the combine at all.

just about every day when i eather go to work or get home from work there are about 3 or 4 deer sittin in my back yard. well sorta, my house is on top of a hill and you can see right down there and see them just standin there. i just need to get a permit and a bow might help too. but i dont see the point in hunting with a gun, only if the deer has one too. bow hunting is diff. any jackazz can pull a trigger on a gun but it takes some skill to bow hunt

not ranting or tryin to tick anyone off its just my point of veiw that all

well i ended up breaking my own rules..by accident though.

about 8:30 i hadnt seen anything, i mean NOTHING, not hardly even a squirrel, and i was getting bored, and i kept falling asleep, and i was actually getting a little chilly and there was no one hunting anywhere near me, at least that was supposed to be there, so i decided to get down and try a little stillhunting(walking slow and quiet, stopping every few feet, keeping eyes ears and whatever else peeled for deer)

i almost got ran over by a coyote, i was gonna shoot it, but it took me a second to realize what it was, then it went off into some thick brush, so i just sat there and watched it tell i couldnt see it anymore

right after that i jumped up a small buck and a doe, another small, buck, two does, another doe..see a pattern here? deer kept running away from me! but they were like 20 yards or less and i didnt see them, the brush is so thick around here...anyway about 10:30 i jumped up like 4 or 5 deer, i dont know how many there were...i think they kept smelling because because it was really windy, wind kept changing, and they didnt really seem to know what they were running from...

so those 4 or 5 ran circles around me and then all stopped...i could only see one so i waited for a shot, because i thought it was a small doe, and those are good to eat, thats what i told myself...so i shot it, not the greatest shot in the world but it did the trick..and i walk over, pull it legs apart to verify that it is indeed a doe..and what do i see lookin back at me?.....not udders....stupid button buck! i hate those things, why cant they grow visible antlers! at least something! geez...so i got pissed, went and got the truck, field dressed it and all that...now its outside in the tree, luckily it cooled down quite a bit so we can leave it hanging for a while i hope.

and i do agree that bowhunting is far more challenging, but it does take some skill to gun hunt, you have to be able to calm your nerves to shoot, you have to find a clear shot, you have to know where to shoot the deer, i mean its not just something anyone can do, you can still miss with a scope, ive seen it done, ive done it myself

so yeah thats my uneventful hunting story, i wouldve rather shot the coyote, although im not 100% sure its currently coyote season...but i also dont particularly care.

oh yeah i use a .243 Winchester
