Please Read, I know its a long read but i need some advice


I HATE MY JOB!!!

I have worked at the local Culvers for about 9 months now. I was there when the first opened. It has been heII since i started. I thought that it was going to get better after the first few months because they just started and its always a bit sketchy when you first open a business. But i was wrong, it never got better, it only got worse.
The owners are just too stupid to run a business, they don't know how to treat there employees, or run a restaurant.
One Example: When we started we had about 60 employees, we are down to 20. Not enough to run a business. I am the only "fryer" left out of about 8. On Friday nights we get really really busy. Especially on fryers because we serve fish. When they first started doing one person per station in the kitchen (Fryers, Buns, grille, and middle) i struggled doing fryers by myself, so i told them. That went on for about 3 months of me getting my a$$ kicked on fryers every Friday night. Finally one fri night the owner was working in the kitchen with us, and of course i was alone on fryers, i got behind again and the owner, the a$$ he is, started bitching be out because i couldn't keep up with frys, so i stopped what i was doing and yelled at him "I CAN'T DO FRYERS MYSELF ON FRIDAY NIGHTS!!!!" I'm pretty sure the whole store heard me. The next Friday night i had someone working with me and it went perfect. But lately i have been back to myself on Friday nights. Well tonight was probably the busiest night we have ever had at that store and i just got BOMBED on fryers, it was to the point where i almost collapsed because of exhaustion, and stress (and I'm not exaggerating). I was very very close to walking out tonight, but my favorite manager was closing and i didn't want to leave her to close the store by herself.
Its not just Fridays that are bad there, its every day, that was just one example.
I am the lowest paid in the kitchen, and i am available about 35 hours a week and i work about 12. and only Friday Saturday and Sundays. So pretty much i have no life, because i can't do anything on weekends.

Tomorrow i am going to tell the owners I'm quitting. I know the proper thing to do is give a two week notice, but i don't think i can bring myself to work another two weeks. Is it really that big of a deal if i just call them tomorrow and tell them I'm not coming back? Or do i really have to give two weeks?
Any help from y'all would be appreciated! Thanks...

You never have to give two weeks, especailly not that kind of job. Maybe if you were in an industry where you needed the references.

If it'* too much, get out! Get out now!!!! It ain't worth the stress just to make fries. I bet there'* a dozen places within 3 blocks of there you could get the same job with better management.

I'm a mgr @ a Culver'* in Mankato, i've put my notice in, and it'* a firesale of ppl quitting now. They promoted someone out of desperation because out of the three regular closing mgrs, 2 of us are or will be gone...

That being said I can't wait to get back in the cities and working @ a real job again.

You might want to find a store near you owned by someone else, the other Culver'* I worked at was A LOT busier, but the owner ran it better, and it was easier IMO. I would advise you NOT to quit until you have a new job.

Definately don't quit until ya have another job waiting. At least that way you still have money coming in until something better comes along

i am leaving my dealership in malden ma. were the biz is very slow right now. my last check i have cashed yesterday was for 79.00, for 1 weeks work. i have found another dealership in salem ma. and im going to start there next monday. is a chevy dealership as well as pontiac, buick and gmc. so i will fit right in. they have 20 bays and when i went there on my interview, they were all full, . just have to get my tool box there , snap-on said they will do it for me for 50.00 and i thought that was cheap since it is so big. ill let everyone know how it goes after im there for a month or so........

And for those of you who think that there is now way i could be that exhausted from fryers (it sounds like im a big sissy ) i got a thermometer out and put it on the counter it was about 90* with the grill and fryers turned off. So put a 500* grill, and 5 fryers at 400* going full out, plus 4 people - it gets hot. Then i was going nonstop for about a 2 hour rush, no stopping to get a drink or anything, and it'* not just frys i have to drop, its fish, chicken, and other stuff.


Yea, Jason, that sounds like our culvers right now, people just quitting left and right. People keep quitting and they keep hiring idiots. And trying to find another culvers is kinda out of the question. The nearest culvers is about 3 hours away

Congrats man, Being a crew trainer isn't either at the ****ed up arches. I need to get outta there to. I'm thinking about a job at best-buy or the electronics depatment at wally world. But anything else is better than fast food. PM me if u want some bad customer stories (don't wanna hijack this thread )

Yeah with a job, one should never bust their *** for low wages.
Most employers want a maximum effort for a minimal wage, but one gets what he pays for. If they are going to pay low wages, they are going to likely get less than excellent workers.
YOu work too hard for what I imagine it is paying.

From what I hear, fast food or restaurant work is some of the worst. I don't know cause the last time I worked in one I was 16 and washing dishes.

If you CAN stick it out until you find a new job great, but if not, well, don't stick around and lose your sanity over this and possibly get hurt cause you cannot concentrate on task.

If you do not really need a job real bad like if you are living at home and don't have any real bills, then I say leave that place and see what comes.

And for the 2 week notice - giving one is almost unheard of these days. Employers don't give 2 week notices when they fire or lay off. Aside that, most employers will fire a person before the 2 weeks cause they are afraid the person is going to steal or something.

I would say if you WANT to be polite, then at the end of your shift before your day off, let the boss know "Well, I am sorry to have to do this but I will not be returning after today..." and don't let them talk you into staying, they will try that if you are a good worker... and cause that means the boss might have to fill in.. GOD forbid
