Default mild complaint from 2 years ago - a/c fix?

shortly afteri moved back to oklahoma after living in michigan, my air conditioner in my car stopped working. it failed to get cold. id had excellent experiences with midas in michigan so i assumed (wrongly) that all midas' were good.
i took the car in to midas and asked them to fix it. they said theyd try, but couldnt guarantee anything. i was apalled at the suggestion that something they said they could do they would fail to tell me if they screwed up, they would fix it. against my better instinct, i said "do it". they did, paid well over $500 for them to work on it. got the car back a week later, and guess what? the a/c didnt work. you didnt see that coming, did you?
well, i took it back and i was pretty po'd at the time. i suggested they finish fixing it for free, and was just about laughed out. i asked why they couldnt insure their work (a conversation i shouldve had before) and they informed me that it was standard on a/c units. that if something goes wrong with it, they really have no way to tell what went wrong. so apparently they dont know how an air conditioner works, yet still charged me over $500 to "fix" it. no refund, either. because they didnt think it was their fault. so i said to fix it again. got the car back the next day after paying over $100 for this service. and guess what the issue was? the coolant was bone dry. i was intensely po'd, because there was no leak. they had to have just not put anything in it before and then charged me over $100 to fill it.

i never went back to midas. just put it behind me. and $500 for the first service is a rough guess. i think it was more to the tune of $900, but i couldnt swear to it.
