Default amd question

ok i have a amd 64 bit 3500+ prossesor but when i check the speed it says like 800 mhz and every now and then (whenim running alota programs) it will just to like 1.5 ghz
i know that my laptop is set to save power by running at lower speeds but im norm pluged in and i have an extra battery so power is not realy that big of a deal to me..

how can i set my latop to run at full speed while i have it pluged in..
a 3500 should run around 2.2 ghz anyone have a clue??

thansk

it does run at full speed, but only when it needs it, its just like a Intel P-M

Its goes up and down when it needds more speed or less. all the Mobal Intel and AMD Cpus do that. Most of the time there is a setting in the BIOS to change it, but.. sometime you cant change it.

you can also get a AMD tool to watch the CPU speed

Ya my Pentium M does the same thing, it'* usually "lounges" at 798Mhz but ups to full speed(1.73Mhz) as needed. BTW Bandit.... Thanx for the link to the program to force the fans to hi speed. Very cool. Its monitors CPU, GPU, and Memory temps and the laptop is running much cooler. The program even shows the Chip speed and displays all in the bottom tray.

1gig or memory is not alot these days, how much memory i used when you have all that open? check Task Mager and see how many processes are running.

Might be some things you can turn off in start up also in MSCONFIG to speed things up.

also most laptops are never spped demons, most fee laggy compaird to a desktop, the more highend ones can feel as fast but most of the mid grade to lowend ones will feel a little laggy when you have a lot open. 2GB of RAM might help that out. also if you only have a 4200 or 5400RPM Hard drive going to a 7200RPM one will speed things up also.

I'm no expert here but one thing I noticed with my laptop is dont let it hibernate, I dont know if its a laptop thing? or and XP thing but it really screws it up and can take several reboots to get things all back to normal. I turned the feature off and things are much better.
