Need help with a decicion.

ok i need a few opinions here people about my mercury.

the insurance company called me back today and said theyll fix it for the total of 2500 (thats not including mechanical damage) they also said when they take it apart to fix it theyll know what mechanical damage there is from there and decide whether to total it out or not.

theyre also offering half of the towing/storage fees we paid which comes out to to around $500

according to them if the mechanical damage is too severe theyll just total the car out.

what i need to decide is to let them take the car and TRY to fix it or take the 3k offered (2500 + 500) and walk away from the car. now if it is totaled theyll offer the value of the car in their eyes (4k according to the adjuster). and its a chance i dont know if i want to take because i dont want this car anymore after its been in an accident like this.

so guys what do you think i should do?

take the 2500 + 500
let them try and fix it and by some chance do fix it
or let them try and fix it and find that it will be totaled.

I'd take the money and run if you don't think there is much damage. If you take the money, will they consider it totalled? If not, and you aare keeping the car, put it on ebay for $400 with no reserve and pickup only for shipping. Might be a way to make up the difference between the $4000 it's worth and the $3000 they are offering.

If you know there is most likely mechanical damage, then you might be better off trying to get it fixed, but ask that they pay the full towing and storage expense.

I'd take the money.

Take the money- not worth messing around with mechanical issues after a crash.
