GM Rear Gears and Carrier Questions. Need Help Fast Please!
Does anyone know the difference between older truck gears and car gears? I have a set of 3.73 gears listed and I don't know anything about them, but I keep getting questions as to wether they are car or truck gears. I also have the carrier listed that they came off of and I was told it is a series 3. Is there any way to tell what series it is. The guy that is currently the high bidder wants me to cancel his bid if the gears are truck gears and not car gears. I did not state what they were for therefore he should have done his homework before bidding. Any help or info is greatly appreciated.

Generally, the truck crown gear will be thinner than a car crown gear.
Being a GM12-8 7/8...there is TWO seperate listings one for car one for truck
gm12-373 new sells for around 250..without bearings
I sell this stuff all day long

That case most likely wont interchange..if it came in a car, it stays in a car...same with a truck..on your case.usually its the axle shafts that make the difference

most 12 bolts were either 28 or 30 IIRC...my book is at work lol Cars could be either 28 or 30
On the crown itself, there will be some numbers stamped on there, is most cases, the thick crown gear will have an X after the gm part number or a -X
The thick one though looks obviously large..even if u havent seen a truck crown
Its the shaft length that can get you....im thinkin the axle shafts for that will have spots for C-Clips
