Default Working with DVD'*?

I burned my VHS home movies to DVD with my Magnavox DVD Recorder/VCR MWR 20V6, Now I would like to clip sections out of the movies and put in menus then burn them back to DVD. I'm using a DVD+RW that ends up with a file structure like this:

VIDEO_RM
- VIDEO_RM.DAT
- VIDEO_RM.BUP
- VIDEO_RM.IFO
VIDEO_TS
- VIDEO_TS.DAT
- VIDEO_TS.BUP
- VIDEO_TS.IFO
- VTS_01_0.BUP
- VTS_01_0.IFO
- VTS_01_1.VOB
- VTS_01_2.VOB
- VTS_01_3.VOB
- VTS_01_4.VOB

I have a Toshiba SD-R5372 DVD+/-RW Drive in my PC.

From what Google tells me the *.vob files are mpeg files with a few things added, I tried just changing the extension on VTS_01_1.vob but Windows Movie Maker won't let me do anything past 8min, which it thinks is the total length. Windows Media player will play the entire file but, it also thinks the movie is only 8min long.

What am I supposed to do to acheive this? I don't know enough about this process to google it better. Anybody know something about this?

Right, I was there earlier. They tell you how to do lots of stuff, But I have no idea what I'm trying to do. I don't even know what it'* called. I could be trying to discombobulate it.
