im putting in for a job transfer / promotion. to do so, i have to turn in an abbreviated resume.

following is my abbreviated resume. any input is greatly appreciated. also, there are a lot things i added in to my job descriptions which were not part of my job -- they were part of me going above and beyond. should i do something to draw attention to these, or should i rely on the manager who will be reviewing it [and who i worked with a couple years ago, for the same company] to notice that these are not the normal tasks for someone in my position?

and no, "Renaissance Man" is not my official title, but i worked so many departments during that time frame that there is no job title for me. i was officially "Mens Associate" but most of my time was actually spend in cash office, customer service, and jewelry.

I probably wouldn't highlight the duties where you went above and beyond, because it may come across as boasting. The manager as you said should be able to see that you did a lot of things not specific to your title.

Other than that the only thing that seemed "weird" (for lack of a better word) was the repetition of "greeting customers with a smile...." several times. I'm trying to think of a way you could sum up your entire Kohl'* experience, with that phrase included, so you didn't have to repeat it 4 or 5 times. Possibly a very brief paragraph (2 or 3 sentences) at the top before the listing of the job duties, and in that paragraph a short explanation of why you very well deserve a promotion. What do you think?

Keep it to one page, no fluff. Just like you have it. They don't want to waste time on long-winded resume'* That'* what an interview is for.

Couldn't have said it better myself. And the first two positions you had sound like they have such similar responsabilities (albeit different departments) that I would be tempted to group them together. Or perhaps add a section later indicating the departments where you have worked. Of course, if you were applying for a position outside of Kohls, you would group all of your Kohls experience together (unless, for example, you served in roles that were not lateral, i.e. "sales associate from 1997 to 2001, store manager 2001 to present")

the reason theyre divided like they are:

truck unload was at a different store than renaissance man
both spec. positions were at a different store than the other two.
i divided up both spec positions because i will be applying for the same two positions at the new store -- Shoes and Jewelry. i want them to know how long i did each before i get in there.

i would also like to emphasize my longevity with this company. ive been here for 6 years -- longer than the guy doing the hiring and longer than anyone in the metro area. emphasis on "im not leaving any time soon"

maybe to the right side of my name, put "6 years" or something? or is that cheesy?

That would be repeat information, and if I am not mistaken, that would be discouraged on a resume.

I'd reorder the Accomplishments section from most recent to oldest.

If the duties for the various positions are the same at all the stores then I would omit them, the managers already know whats entailed.

Add any relevant experience and job details that you obtained outside of Kohls
