MyCarFAx DOT COM Beta
Received a invitation to be a BETA tester on mycarfax dot com.
It looks kinda neat. You enter your plate number and state, it then tells you what vehicle you have, etc. It shows you any prior documented maintenance, where it was done, and maintenance schedule based on current and future mileage. It also lets you enter any work that a shop has performed or work you did yourself. I like this feature because a DIY, the Carfax report will show the work done if one goes to sell their vehicle. It will also give you a history- so you won't have to remember stuff like when did I last replace the transmission filter, etc. It will also send you a reminder of things like when to renew your registration. Note that Carfax pulls the registration from the state DMV, you do not enter it into the system. I like the idea of this- lets see if I have the discipline to use and post work done into the carfax system. |
That's interesting. I just put all 3 of my vehicles in via license plate. This is spooky. I'm curious to know where they pull the data from.

if you forget to renew your registration you get a handy reminder notice from the friendly officers here.

I changed the oil and filter on a vehicle yesterday. I posted the action on mycarfax. It instantly and painlessly recorded the action, and then posted when I need to do it next according to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule.
If somebody has one car, easy enough to remember. I have multiple vehicles and now I no longer have to remember when I did something or when something needs attention; as long as I do the action updates. |

Another thing not to get caught in NY with. An expired inspection sticker. I got pulled over for that years ago. The NYS trooper actually told me he couldn't even FATHOM what the fine would be. Because the fine is based on how many days OVER due the inspection is. I was about 6 months. trch |
Thanks for the post, I know my PA has only had one owner, I'll still look it up to see how well it works.

I usually get an email from NY about 60 days out. Then another at 30 days. I've gone 2 months over on registration and renewed it online with no problems. Just don't get caught.

My fine was still $125. He got me with "un-inspected motor vehicle" instead of expired. Lucky break LOL.
