Default I did not know that...

Working in the yard last night, I noticed a Blue Jay sitting on one of the utility cables. I called The Missus over to check it out (they don't really seem to like the populated areas, so they ain't that common).

About the time she gets there and sees it, the Blue Jay swoops down on the birdhouse in our yard. I get about half of "What the f... is he doing?" out and it pops its head into the birdhouse, yaks out a baby sparrow and flies to the top of the tree and starts chowing.

I never knew Blue Jays were hunters. I thought they ate berries and stuff, not baby sparrows.

BTW, The Missus threw a fit, told me to go get the BB Gun and Ten Pump his ***. While it shocked me, it didn't hurt my yard none, and I ain't gonna kill him for doing what nature told him to do.

All in all, it was a very wierd learning experience....

Yes, they do eat baby birds. I've seen one eating a baby sparrow not too long ago.

Learn something new every day. That would have been cool to catch on tape, but it is kinda disturbing. Glad no children saw it.

I also thought they just ate berries and seeds type of things.
Huh. I have 4 that live by and visit my feeders daily along with sparrows, morning doves
and robbins. and have never even seen them fight each other.
they just eat my feed side by side.
