Why is the impala SS so much more than the SSEi?
Curious.
A 96 Impala SS bluebooks at $9000 with 110,000 miles
A 96 Bonneville SSEi books at $3900 with 110,000 miles.
- Same Options
- Both are 4 door sedans
- Impala has 17" rims vs 16" on a bonneville.
Impalla is RWD and has 260HP
SSEi is FWD and has 240HP
With $100, and SSEi has 260HP with a pulley and gutted airbox
The pricing was THE SAME in 1996.
So why' did the SSEi lose so much value and the Impala did not?

OH GEEZ! Huge difference! Number one, we're talking about putting an L67 up against an LT1. V8s are sadly much more desirable than a supercharged V6. So much more potential, and to me, the Impala looks a lot hotter (BLASPHEMY!)

Obviously...but they are both 10 year old cars.....
Is it really worth $5,000 more for a V8?

Limited numbers, 3800'* are a dime a dozen, where as the 96 Impy SS is a far more sought after vehicle.
Ask the average joe which he would prefer.

Overall....way more 3800s were produced, the Impala SS was limited to that year.
Face it, its a "something special" car, the SSEi really isnt. People are willing to pay more for the SS then the SSEi.

In reality the SSEi is a FWD large car, and the SS is a muscle car. It was only produced for a few years, and it will be a true collectable car down the line.
The Bonneville is somewhat of a "jelly bean" car out of the 90'*. Enthusiasts spend high dollar for rare cars, and there are plenty of those fwd cars around.

Ditto on the sought after. If any of you read my letter I sent into Hemmings that time, I was looking for an Impy SS when I found the Bonneville. From a driving standpoint, the Bonneville is far more economical, but from a money standpoint, the Impala is far rarer, and will be worth a whole lot more money down the road.
