It flat out sucks. My dad'* friend has it (she is out in the middle of nowhere, has NO choice) and she hates it. Only a 762k connection and pays 59.99/mo and paid 250.00 for installation and the cable modem!

That is my situatuon also. Dial-up or satellite. Price is the same too. Or can go 1M for 69.99. Does the connection go to crap when it is cloudy/rainy?

it isn't as bad as it used to be , with needing a phone line for the return signal. If it'* your only option... beggers can't be choosers.
They do keep a close eye on the AUP. If they think you are sucking too much bandwidth, they throttle you.

Yes it does. Even with her having a rainguard and being mounted really sturdy, when big storms come, it goes out and you do have to keep the dish clean when it snows.

heavy rain/very high humidity is a barrier to good signal.

the problem isn't the rain on the dish, it'* all the moisture the signal has to go through to get to you, and you out to the sat.

normally speeds are around 400KBPS.

upload speeds are limited to 30-40kbps or so since it is going over a phone line...thats where it HURTS.

Yeah my buddy has it out in the middle of nowhere... I went over and used it once and i was like DYING it was so slow.

He pays for a 1MB connection and I tested it on a PERFECT sunny day and they speed test said 300 mbps so..i dunno!

my opinion...its alot to pay, but if you dont have much of a choice..then hey, dont suffer with dialup!

got home and saw a brochure from www.wildblue.com. How'* that for a coincidence. 1.5Mbps for 49.95/month. Full sat signal up and down.
