Default Tax return questions

We bought a house with an FHA loan. Does that really mean we aren't eligible for mortgage interest credit?

Are we eligible for credits for high efficiency appliances/windows/insulation if they were included in the new construction house mortgage?

Any little tricks I should know about?

And why would my large student loan that I consolidated not qualify as a higher education expense?
