Default Well it is official

Yesterday at work, i was getting close to the end of the day and trying to pick up the pace to finish. I was loading a truck (ups), so i was kinda rushing. I stepped in the hole in a pallet and twisted my knee. Didnt think much of it when it happend, just an ohh thats about it. Late last night i work up and it hurt bad and was stiff. So i got out the rice bag, warmed it up and put it on my knee. Fell asleep, woke up this morning and it was very stiff and hurt pretty bad. So i called worked and told them what happened and i was taking the day off. I knew i could stand on cement floors for 8-10 hours and lift and bend and everything. So i didnt go and they said ok. My mother in law calls me around 10ish and lets me know UPS called and said i was fired. They were "upset i missed time". Lay offs were happening anyways and they were getting rid of me, they said they might be able to find me work someother time but no longer need me. I wanted to call them and tell them what i thought of them but thought better of it. I am pretty upset, considering i hurt myself there and was helping them by not pushing myself and hurting it futher. I dunno, just needed to vent alittle

Cliff notes for lazy people.... Got fired because of a work injury. Now jobless again. BUt atleast they owe me a small check this time (3 days so about 165 bucks or something).

wow you got hurt at their place of business and got fired for it? In my opinion, they are responsible and should be making sure you are healed properly.

I know and i am not the only one to have to go throw this. Someone else was hurt abotu a week ago and there job was "terminated because that position wasnt need anymore". So it is screwy.

I thought about going to the ER and getting it checked (if it still hurts tomorrow i am going to). And i feel they should pay for atleast that, but i am stupid for not letting the supervisor know and not filing an incident report. But it didnt hurt then and it does now. so i dunno

And i am not going to say i had a perfect attendance record because i didnt but the reasons i missed work before was court (3 times for the same ticket) and 1 time for a flat tire, that i got while pulling into the nail invested parking lot lol.

you need to go to the dr and make sure you get this covered under workmans comp, im sure you could manage to get some compensation even if they were to lay you off in the near future

They can't fire or lay you off while you are out on a work injury. They have to wait for you to officially return to work. its illegal. A lawyer may be needed but I doubt it.

Go to the ER (workers Comp of course) and get it taken care of while its still their responsibility. Maybe you'll get lucky and get a few extra weeks out it plus Physical thereapy with some cute blonde wouldn't be bad at all.

See i dont know anything about this kind of thing, i have never been through it before.

As for the dr and what not, if it hurts, i am going to have it check tomorrow at the ER. I mean nothing is broken or tore, it is just pretty sore. More or less a tweak.

As for unemployment, i dont have enough weeks in or whatever this year. I have been in school for the last 2 years. I worked all last summer (from 1st week in june til 2nd to last week in august). This summer from the 1st week in june til the first week in august. Then layed off for 2 weeks and been work for the last 2 weeks. I asked a few people and they said i have to work 26 weeks this year and i am no where close to that maybe like 10ish.

Yeah, I know a bit about it from having to cover for someone out on comp. And since we're both in NY i'm positive in the advice I gave. If it still hurts, you'd be surprised how easy it is to tear something in your knee, I wouldn't wait to see a Doc. Call UPS and get the info you need regarding workers comp that you'll need to give the ER. (insurance, claim #, contact/billing phone #'* and addresses, etc)
