Default High 8 Videos

I can't find my manual for my Sony Hi8/ digital combo. Is there any way to transfer from Hi8 to the card on the camera? I to this day do mot understand why there are no audio video ports on these damn computers. :?

I have an older one without the card so I can't answer your question. Does your camera have a firewire (1394) port?

to get it onto a computer , yes. capture the video with a pc capture card/tv tuner card. If it was a digital, you could use the dv port to trans to a pc. I didn't think yours was a digital.

Here'* a link to Pinnacle'* website. They have 4 different products with all the software & hardware in one package. What kind of computer are you using?

You can download a printable version of your manual -

If you can capture the Hi8 video through the DV port you may only need a cable. A lot of the new computers have a firewire port. Laptops are usually 4 pin & desktops are usually 6 pin. The Sony camcorders are 4 pin. The cables are known as firewire, IEEE 1394 & also iLink. You can use Windows Movie Maker will capture the video

Here'* a couple links with amazing prices on the cables. The local stores want about $30. This site has them for about $12 ($6 + $6 for shipping)

Video cameras that use this size tape are getting hard to find. If something were to happen to your camera its going to get harder & harder to find a way to play these. We all need to back these up in another format.

capture the video with a pc capture card/tv tuner card
This is what i'm going to have to do. My Sony is digital but my old camera was not. My family was in the stone age until 3 or so years ago so I am still learning about technology. So, you need to explain how to get the vids on this pc capture card. I wish it were as easy as getting a cable for the DV port.

You can download a printable version of your manual -
Thanks for the link. Yea, I have 6 Hi8 tapes that need to be converted but i'm just focusing on this one now.
