allright i have this annoying line that goes slowly down my monitor you can barely see it all. but it still annoys me. i was under the impression that this had to do with the refresh rate. my refresh is set at 60hz(fast as it will go...cheap monitor) and my GPU supports 1024x768 at 60hz which is what ive got it set at. any suggestions? or do i just need a real monitor?

New monitor might be good, could also be a bad cable. Test different things. Another trick is to force a higher res/refresh. When you're adjusting the properties go to the settings tab, then advanced then the Monitor tab Uncheck the "Hide modes this monitor cannot display". Try higher settings, until it doesnt work. You can usually force a higher level or two.

What kind of lighting is in the room? Do you see the line with the lights off? It is very probable that its the 60Hz refresh. CRT'* are pretty cheap these days, you can get a 19 for under 200.00.

Most LCD'* in the consumer range (ie less that 500) suck for 3d gaming as the contrast ratio is pretty low and they are prone to ghosting. You can get a damn nice CRT for that money...granted you wont be toating it to any lan parties...but still.

I've never had a problem with mine and ghosting EVER on any game. I've had mine for over a year. I have a Dell 1503FP, and i use DVI, i believe that the DVI does help a lot, and it makes it VERY beatutiful. Nothing ever made it ghost, DVD'*, or Games or anything. CRT'* are faster, but they are still bouncy and hard on the eyes. I don't know if i can ever go back for everyday applications.

60Hz!!! Wow, that rate gives me headaches. I recommend you use above 70 if you get a monitor to handle it. Mine is at 75, and I don't get headaches anymore.

If cash flow is a problem, Hoov, stick to your TV Idea. Should be able to get that hooked up for uner $20. Not gonna be the best display, but better than a dying 13"
