Default foiled again: a NOVEL approach

x^2+4x+4. simple, i know.

i recently purchased the Stage 1 performance package from intense. heres my experience thus far:

i ordered it [insert unknown date here], and it was supposed to arrive here last friday. then i got to thinking: "oh, did they include a PCM tray with that order? cuz if i go FWI, then ill need a PCM tray." so i went to the website and looked up the stage 1 package -- and i saw "Fenderwell Intake Kit", so i for some reason concluded that it didnt include the pcm tray [no, i didnt actually look up "Fenderwell Intake Kit" to see what it contained]. So i placed an order to the tray, and promptly got an email from Todd saying something to the effect of "what are you thinking? you already have that coming. want me to refund the money and cancel the order?" so it was cancelled [immense thanks to them].

fast forward, its suddenly friday. But whats this? Nancy works from 6a to 4p or so, i work from 2p to 10:30p. and signature required. so we went about our days, me hoping that they wouldnt try to deliver it from 2p to 4:30p. but they did, and i didnt find out about it until mid-day saturday when i opened the front door for some reason. the slip was hidden very cleverly on the screen door [which is made out of glass]. did i mention that i had arranged for my brother to come over on saturday and allow me the use of his knowledge and tools to get most of the stuff installed? well, when i told him i didnt have the package yet, we cancelled until further notice. delivery was rescheduled for monday.

fast forward to monday, and ive been looking forward to getting this package. again, nancy works 6-4 or so, andi work 2-10:30 or so. so i call one of my friends and get him to house-sit between me leaving and nancy getting home, so we dont miss it. im thinking, "im off tues, so ill do the plugs and FWI myself, saving the pulley until boost'* pulley puller gets here" [thank you boost]. it came last night.

fast foward to today, i get up at 5am [when nancy gets up] so i can get an early start on it. go out, piddle for a bit until i know oreilley, autozone, and advance are all open. go to all three mentioned looking for AC Delco wires [which for some reason i had assumed would be included in the stage 1 package, but wasnt -- again i go to intense website, and it doesnt say a word about the wires. apparently i pulled that one out of the air]. no one carried AC Delco wired, but theyd be happy to order them for me, if i give them 3-5 business days. i just say forget it, ill order it online. oh, also a thermostat o-ring and gasket. no one has a gasket, advance told me i didnt know what i was talking about. so i think "oh well, ill just order those online, install the thermostat, plugs/wires, and pulley at a later date. i can still install the FWI." so i pick up a haynes manual just in case.

fast forward to me getting home. pull into the garage, pop the hood, and get busy. pull the IAT connection, pop the tabs, pull the accordion tube between the throttle body and air box, pull the lid off, followed by the air filter. place all of them carefully in an unused corner of the garage for now, and then go back to figuring out the PCM. the haynes manual says it comes out with two "clips" and after a bit of decision, i decide it means the two star-headed screws holding the rest of the airbox assembly to the car. but shocker of shockers, all of my screwdrivers [i mean, all of them except for two phillips and two straight] are missing.

and so i put it all back together, its now almost 11am, ive accomplished nothing and spent $70 ordering stuff i forgot the first time.

but today wont be a total waste, i called the place our lawnmower is getting fixed at [they said two weeks to fix it, its been two weeks and our lawn looks it] and theyre done. so im going to go pick it up, drop off another lawnmower to get it fixed too, then come back and mow the yard.

and if thats not enough, im going to sears later to pick up some new tools.

and im going to play starcraft for a couple hours while watching minority report and monty python.

thank you for your attention.

Jeff,

The pcm is only held in by two clips (similar to the airbox clips) and it easily comes out of the airbox. As far as the two star headed bolts, those are the studs used along with the rubber grommets to keep the airbox in place. To remove the airbox just pull it up towards you. The rubber grommets will either stay on the star studs or stay with the airbox.

I am very interested in how this will improve the performance of the car. I might have to splurge for this as well.

Thank you...

BTW..when you order from Intense..if you are willing to be responsible for the package..you can request no signature required and Fedex will leave your parts for your neighborhood GP folks. lol

genius. so just like with the back seat, i didnt pull hard enough. oh, and the taillights.

should i learn something from this and just begin pulling harder all the time? i think not.

thanks boost for the info on siggy req, i might just have to do that for the next package.

thanks gumby for backing up metz' statement.

its not even 5, i might have another go at the FWI.

update:

FWI is in, but i had difficulty installing the PCM tray. im off to Lowes/Home Depot to get a larger threaded screw, as only one of the provided screws would grip.

I ground off both those mounts and put self tap metal screws through the bottom (hidden by the pcm when in installed) instead. That allowed mine to fit more snug in that place with less of an angle.
