Default On a more serious note...

Last night around 8 PM I was running like I often do when i got a sudden, heavy, painful feeling in the center of my chest. I immediatley started to feel dizzy and nauseous so I took a break. The pain was also in my jaw/neck as well. The pain lasted for around 25 minutes and then subsided. I've been having the pains off and on throughout the day today. I had a doctor'* appointment for 10 AM today anyways, so I just waited until then to talk to him. I told him the symptoms I was having and he told me those were all symptoms of a heart attack! Keep in mind that I'm 21 years old, and run often to keep in shape. I'm 200 pounds, and 6'1" so I'm not really overweight.. This is some scary stuff. A nurse hooked me up to an EKG and they monitored my heart for a few seconds. The doctor looked at the results and said that he wanted to wait to discuss the results until he could run a blood test on me as well to confirm what the EKG was saying. I don't know if that'* good, or bad news. My blood pressure was even highly elevated. Three weeks ago it was 102/60, today, it was 155/95. That is in the range for high blood pressure whereas I'm almost always low. While I was at work today the doctor'* office called and left a message saying that I need to call them as soon as I get a chance in the morning. I'll admit, I'm a little scared. I just feel like I'm too young to be having that kind of a problem??

Get checked for pleurisy, dude.

Its a condition where theres a problem with the lining between your inner and outer lungs. I had the same thing happen to me; chest hurt left arm went numb and had shooting pains all in my face... went to the doc and he told me there was basically nothing wrong with me (moron), so I went to my chiropractor and he told me it was probably Pleurisy... and it was.

Get your ticker checked out though. I'm not giving medical advice, just another idea... My chest pain was so bad one day I fell over and was on the ground for ~15 minutes and couldnt get up. Whole body sorta went into shock I think. NOT a good feeling.

Ironically we're the same height and about the same weight, and only a year older than me.

It'* possible what you mentioned Sinister. I also have asthma problems and I mentioned that to him, but it didn't seem too important in regards to the current situation. DJ, I'm not on any supplements or anything. I only take perscription medications right now, but none of them cause any cardiovascular problems. They only have a risk of liver problems. (not that it'* any better.) Thanks for the messages guys. I'll definately update after I call the doctor tomorrow. I just can't sleep right now though.

I was on a medication once that caused occasional severe upper chest pain related to my lungs. Happened once every 3 months or so. Hasn't happened again in the three years since I stopped taking it.

Try not to worry about it until all the tests come back.... I've seen it happen to guys your age....can be something as simple as stress. My ex thought he was going to die when he was 26...turned out to be stress, only stress. And no...it wasn't me

Ha, I have asthma too. Not the greatest set of lungs in the world, but hopefully my 4 years of trombone playing in my early teens helped that out a little :P

I was thinking it was just an attack about to happen (Athletics Induced is what I have) but it was much worse than any attack I've ever had. I was surprised my chiropractor pulled that one out of the air, but he was right!

Wow that sounds serious, actually about 6 years ago I had some chest pains as well, but mine turned out to back spasms.........Now PDad had something far more serious and that was pericarditis, and that was scarry. The lining of his heart was infected and was swollen and started pushing on his lungs, which made it hard for him to breathe. We were out camping at the time and no where near a hospital......I told him if he ever tried that again I would kill him myself!

Please keep us updated on your condition and let us know how things go.

my son had CostoChondritis or something like that. It is inflammation of the cartilage around the heart and gave him symptoms of a heart attack.

Good Luck and let us know the outcome!!

Sorry to worry everyone. I called the doctor'* office and they said that the blood test results all came back in the normal range. I guess after heart damage the heart tissue releases a protein in the blood that is detectable using a certain blood test. The level of the protein was within normal ranges. They said the chest pain was probably related to stress or indigestion. How embarassing. To think you're having a heart attack and having it be bad gas instead (or something like that).
