The US is sending over 30 million dollars in relief funds over there. That's great, but it will only cover a fraction of the damage. It is really going to require the efforts of all nations to aid these countries that were damaged.

Lol, the earth never stopped rotating... the tectonic shift slightly affected the orbit of the earth, though, but not enough to have any drastic consequences for any of us. Although, point of interest, if I remember the story, subterranean shift instruments were off the charts over here in Ohio... can't recall if I read it right, I didn't have the story here with me. Magnitude 9.0 quake... it was supposedly the biggest quake worldwide since 1964.
Over 60,000 dead, though. I hope everyone's alright... three of my fraternity brothers are in Thailand right now, in Bangkok. |
66,000 dead, so far. Measles outbreak possible, cholera almost certain, dysentry unavoidable. Disease could kill more people than the wave itself did.
National Geological Society says the plate involved moved 98 FEET!!! Island of Sumatra was displaced about sixty feet. Can you imagine an entire fucking ISLAND moving sixty feet?! On top of that, debri(floating and sunken) may make some harbors unusable. It's been a bad week. |
i heard that the water went out a couple miles, and then came rushing back in, and a lot of people went to the beach to see what happened.

Last update had 100 000+ dead, with over half in Indonesia. Relief supplies are now just arriving, however it may take awhile to reach remote villages (most now gone due to the tsunamis wake.)
100 000+ largest natural disaster on record, and most casualities since Hiroshima and Nagasaki (albeit that wasnt natural) |
