Major Changes

So this fall i will be entering my 3rd year at community college, unfortunately i'll be going for 4 years... the reason for going 4 years is because, i keep changing my course of study.
Before i started college i wanted to go into Computer Engineering, the only reason i thought that would be a good idea was because i liked computers and computer engineers made tons of money, then i came to my senses, and decided to go for a Computer Science degree, after a year and a half of that i realized i wanted something different, so i decided to do a complete switch and went for a Criminal Justice Degree with the intent to go to a university for a Computer Forensics degree. Then During my last semester i took a CAD class (i loved drafting in High School so i thought it would be something fun to waste my money on :P ), and fell in love, now i am going for a CAD degree so my changes are:

Computer Engineering
Computer Science
Criminal Justice
CAD

I'm hoping the 4th times the charm, and that i'll like CAD enough to stick with it, but at this point i'm thinking even if i don't like it it'd probably be a good idea to stick it out anyway...

Anyone else change their minds a lot during college?

Confused college student, checking in!

I started as a Theater Production student, even had a job working for the schools theater with my own budget and everything. also did some work for Meadow Brook Theater as well. Then i changed my major to Electrical Engineering. that didn't work out well (I SUCK at calc!!!) so i changed it to Information Technology. I'm one year out from graduation now and i CAN NOT WAIT to get out of school!!
I have been a college student at a community college and a university now for 6 years... i'd say i've changed my mind a few times...

Re: Major Changes

I started out as Computer Science and went into Computer Engineering, sounds like the opposite of you  I suck at circuits though, so my emphasis was software engineering.

I wouldn't say that folks with Computer Engineering degrees make all that much money :) I'm an Embedded Software Engineer, and I envision that those with similar degrees to mine who work more strictly with hardware earn about $3000-$4000 more a year than I do, and the median for someone with 4-5 years of experience for a Software Engineer is $70,000.

I know that money isn't everything, you can do a lot with a little if you're careful (trust me I know), but... have you been to salary.com to look at what CAD folks make?

EDIT: Wow, looks like we have two EEs checking in thus far! Not easy programs by any means (hence why I went CpE instead of EE, I just wasn't smart enough!) Guess we can't all be Jeff Keachers, who has my utmost respect  Some people become doctors and some just become dentists :)

out this way (because detroit is auto capital and all) it seems that cad guys are mostly taught auto design... not a great area to be in at the moment.

i was only interested in money when i was in High School, now i really don't care, i want to do something that i like, and not just because it makes money...

Take your time to figure it out now. Making a career change after you've graduated is NOT easy.

I have an undergrad in MIS and an MBA. I have a good paying job, but I'm not fulfilled. Only real estate fulfills my interests. So, I'm a realtor, investor, appraiser and (soon to be) builder on the side. Makes life VERY tough trying to balance everything.

No change yet. First year is down and the plan is still the same, mechanical engineer with a minor in mathematical studies. I plan to stick with this and have no plans of switching.

First attempt at college was mechanical engineering. Then I went into the service and straightened the hell up.

Afterwards, I went back to school for network security. Changed major halfway through and went with simulation and robotics, which is the degree I walked away with.

Can't say it was a bad decision...I've got a pretty good job with it 8)
