It Lives!
7 years ago my dad parked his 1980 Honda Goldwing G1100 Interstate. Things were tight and he didn't think he'd be able to make the insurance/registration or have the time to enjoy it, plus it was having brake issues and needed some other repairs. It'* been sitting in the back of the garage for 7 years. I know it'* been killing him not being able to ride so we tried starting it at the beginning of summer. It had flat tires, a stuck throttle, warped main brake booster cup, and some other little things. Couldn't get it to fire at all.
I finally had some free time today to get my hands dirty, spent all day tearing it down. Took out the carb/air filter assembly and ended up having to take apart all 4 carbs and spraying them down with carb cleaner and opening up the fuel passages with a needle. All the gas had dried up and formed a gunk clogging the fuel passage ways. I put in a new fuel filter, oil change, spark plugs, got the carb/air assembly all back in place and still couldn't get it to fire.
Grabbed supper and went back out for one last try. Played around with the fuel lines and finally started getting some fuel through the system, then a couple pops, and vrooom. I could tell he was happy to have it running again. Still needs some more maintenance, but I'd say the hard part is over.
Here she is:
It'* got a faring, and all the rest of the interstate package. Had to strip it all off to get the carbs out. It'* an antique now and I know it means a lot to my dad. It'* been a great way for us to spend some time together since I don't get to see him much living in Chicago.

Love those back in the garage projects!
My father-inlaw has a Honda 50 mini socked away in the shed. I'd love to get that thing out and tinker with it. Last time that thing was fired up? Dunno, but in the 15 years I have know about, it'* never been kicked over.

Thanks guys. It'* interesting working with my dad on something like this. I've always had an interest in tearing things apart, and he'* got that old school knowledge so when I'm scratching my head he says, "Just try this."
I'll get some better pictures when we get it all put back together. I'm hoping to get it done in time to get a couple rides out of it before it gets cold.
