Hog Ring Pliers
I'm in need of purchasing a set of Hog Ring Pliers but apparently there'* 4 different types of pliers:
closed ring
open ring
with spring
no spring
I know I would like the ones with spring, but what is open ring and closed ring. These are for redueing seat covers. Any idea what a good price is for one?

Yup that it, Sexima. I figured those that could help me knew what hog pliers were so that'* why I never explained...........Sorry.

Frank.. is this specifically for the seats or more than that?
I went into my seats, put the heaters in and reused the old rings. All procedures dealing with them was able to be performed with two pair of needle nosed pliers. There'* no precision that is required in that type of situation. If you were planning on going much further..I can see the pliers coming in handy.
Where'* Jimmyfloyd...he had looked into this before.

They will only be used to do the seats, and I've heard a decent pair is about $30.00. Cheap ones can be purchased by usually break and you're luck if they last one pair of seats. Due to the amount of pressure needed to crip the hog rings, I find the needle nose are very consistant and time consuming, but as you say, they do work.

On an AL7 seat there are 4 hog rings per back. And they are very easy to work on. The bottom I think has 2-4 as well. Overall I can't see it adding much time to the process.

Actually there for another GM vehical and there are around 12 per seat, so it does get sore on the fingers. Thanks for the reply Bill.

Having the right tools for the application can make any job simpler.
Sure you can improvise if you don't do it every day and want to save some money but.....
Open ring pliers do just that....open the split ring.
Close ring......close the split ring.
The spring is the return action and it is a useful feature.
