2004 Blazer V-6 running too hot, Help.
I have a 2004 Chevy Blazer and it runs too hot.
Its always right on the edge of pinging and has no power.
I'm 47 and from another era as far as working on new cars.
Help.

Isn't that still under waranty maybe?
Check the oil for coolant....Check the coolant for oil....Maybe go get it all flushed and go from there. Could be something as simple as a stuck thermostat.

Its always been running in the 200 range since new. The salesman said all Blazers run hot. I've been playing with cars since 1965 and never have heard anything like that.
I think it might be some emissions thing.
What do you guys think about these PROM chips?
I know how to set a solid lifter set up or adjust a dual point distributer but these new cars seem so complicated.
Thats why I thought I'd ask some fellow gear heads.

Would this be a TrailBlazer with the 4200 Inline 6? Or the old Blazer with the Vortec 4300 Central Port Injection V6?

Wondering what type of thermostat thay have in that vortec motor... Should be a 195F... Sounds about like what you described when you said 200F all of the time....
2 things I'd do ASAP... Replace the thermostat with a new 195F or 180F<--- Depending on the PCM programming... I think most will tollerate a 180F T-Stat...
Also check and make sure the clutch for the fan has not gone bad...
My first thought is that the T-Stat is sticking shut when it should be fully open... Just my thoughts..

OEM Thermostat opens up @ 195. my neighbor'* bravada quickly rises to 210, and just stays there, unless it sets for a while on a hot day. i say its normal, unless you are not complaining about the 200 degree temp, but something higher...

It seems to me that 200-210 is too high.
When load is applied to the engine its always seems to be on the brink of pinging.
I'd like to try the 180 but I'm wondering if it will pass emisions.
This truck only has 10,000 miles on it and it seems like it should have much more power. My buddies V-6 Electra is so much more powerful that this Blazer.
Its just like the Bravada you mentioned.
