well it looks like the warrenty is for 2 years on the cat. this truck is 6 years old so thats gone past.. looks like my best bet here is to go to the dealer and see what they'll do for me... i have the GM major guard so the most i'll pay is $100...

Read farther down; the cat is one of three parts that are 8/80k.

OK, so here'* where I'll pipe in...
My White Horse has over 182,000 on it and still has the original CAT. Both my O2 sensors are working and register proper readings when scanned (these have been replaced). Car runs great...as smooth as silk as usual.
My point is that time and miles should not be the only criteria used to determine whether the catalytic converter needs replacing. Only replace as it truly needs replacing. That is to say, when proper diagnostic procedures show that it needs replacing.
Of course, I haven't been around much lately, so it may be that you've already done so. In which case.....Never Mind!

Absolutely true.
If you take it to a dealer they will run tests to see if it is bad; if it is good you will be charged for the tests.
Be sure it is bad before you take it in and claim warranty.
If the dealer can demonstrate abuse or lack of maintenance there is no warranty.
