How people misjudge people.

In a recent PM exchange with another member, I was reminded of how odd it was that people have jr's3800 and I 'figured out' exactly backwards.

People have me pegged as the hardass, and him as the quiet mild one. Very few people know that I'm the one that gives probably too many 'chances' to people with issues here.

Until they meet us. Those that have met one or both of us are sometimes surprised at how opposite they had us figured originally.

I used to be in the same situation, but I've gotten to the point where I can figure people out from their posts pretty quickly now.

Who's the member that stands out in your mind as totally different than you had them figured? How were they different after you finally met them in person?

Me :lol: I heard i'm an asshole in person. :lol:

Never met anyone from here, but I'm sure this won't be a dull thread :lol:

x2, but in any event I have to laugh when I see how "serious" some things are handled on here. This is just the internet, right?

Some folks DEFINITELY come across as being harda$$es. But most folks are genuine and we all address the way that we care for others in different ways.

Having been here a couple of years now, I know that no matter how an admin or gearhead seems to come off, I have never seen them give advice that would harm thier car or jeapordize safety. It may be just the internet, but they seem to take it seriously when advising people about things.

I do have a set idea about how certain folks here act in person and I am sure, that if I ever met any of them, it would be different than what I have in my head. And yeah its all good, I don't think badly of any member here.

I agree... some things on here seem uptight sometimes with the way they are for the internet.

But then again this is one of THE cleanest, most well organized forums i have ever run across.

Commenting on your primary post, Bill, I think people have you in the hardass mindset simply because you do most of the dirty work, making the appearance of it all being you. Although, after talking to Don, it would take some major convincing to get me believe that he is a hardass :lol: Because if he's a hardass, and you're supposedly the opposite, you must be a harmless puppy dog :P

Hmm, lets see, who did I figure out was nicer than they came off to be? hmm, well yet to meet any members, which is highly unfortunate, but i think that when i first joined, i sort of had a default mind set for everyone, which i normally do in everyday life. "Stay positive until theres reason for otherwise" If anything, most the people here are alot nicer than I ever would have anticipated them to be. It feels quite far from reality because most of us seem to let our guards down when we come on here and all seem to treat each other as equals. Its a good thing. Kinda like one big family...all have our quirks, but all seem to accept each other just the same. For the most part that is.

From talking to darkshadow on here, and then meeting him at our chicago meet he is totally different in person. He seemed to be more outgoing on here, but in person he's actually kind of shy. But he's a really nice guy once you get him talking lol.

Boosty, Bob( Echo ) and Mike ( Lash ) have seen my not so friendly grumpy side..

Metting a few at SEBF was cool and was not what I expected either... Brad live the closest to me and we hang out every so often... Usually on a day off.. Good Guy...

Mike is similar, But Busy all of the time :lol: I'm always asking him how he does it and where he hides the fountain of youth...lol

Meeting Pat and Boosty was a trip... Pat was not quite what I expected in Person... Opposite of what we see here...lol

Lets just say I have walked away with some really good friends..

And the funny part is I'll admit that I am an A$$hole... But if you really know me you'll know I'm not that bad.. and don't ever ask me for an opinion as you'll get more than you want to hear...lol :lol:

I think the biggest surprise to me here.. was... Boosty.
When i first Joined BC and watched the posting that went on and got to posting my own questions and stuff. i thought boosty was not going to be as friendly and as nice as he is.
I think of him now has a long lost Brother :) Everything time i hang out with him or i goto his house. its like im at my brothers house and it feels like home.

For the Most part. everyone is a little diffrent from online to in person. you can not Judge a person by just reading what they wrote. 8) .

Willwren, i really dont know him much but he does come off as a hard ass but you can tell he has a soft side. Just seems to be a man of few words. If i ever make it to the west coast i will give you my opinion lol :D

Don a tough ass, i dunno lol. I wonder who the first person I pmed was when i decided that i was going to go to FL this winter. hmm lol

Maybe the same guy that came out back to the fire at NEBF and said something like, bill has great neighbors and it is 9 oclock so i am going to have everyone to shut the hell up lol. Well in a much nicer way. :lol:

My opinion on this would be, in order to keep a forum running like this and keep the bullshit to a mininum then you must be a hard ass.

The biggest hard ass on this forum is billboost...... yes yes i know he tries to look innocent but he isnt. Ask squirlly, he just about chocked him at NEBF for leaving the house door open. :lol: (J/P bill, you know your not the bad ass type)

Yes..it's funny.

Some people here are quite true to form and others are the opposite of what you'd expect.

For example, in person WillWren is a nice guy that will help with anything. If we look through his Admin duties..we do actually see that. The thing that surprised me was how old and short he is in person.

The one thing that never ceases to amaze me is how 99% of all members will go out of their way to help others, hands down.. the people I have met here have turned into some of the best friends and group of folks you'd ever know.

Wren is still wayyyy shorter than you'd think. :P

Will I think you come off more as the a-h because in most threads you go right for the meat of the issue with little else said and you don't have a problem saying 'wrong!' to anyone; and being soo overworked, look at your post count <geez>, and admin duties you don't stop to chit-chat as often as we'd like. So it comes off a little unpolished, if you get my drift.

Me, I don't have a problem with that, I take your advice/knowledge and learn from it then move on to the next topic a little wiser.

I'm going to save my coments untill I'm good and drunk, this way I can plead the 5th. Or just say I was under the influence.

All I'm going to say for now is that Will, Don & Boosty, you're each very difference but have one quality which is the same.

Its all pretty simple

The select few people with the Yellow Stars (and Purple stars) work their butts off (free of charge) to make sure this site is the best, most informative, clean yet fun site for the 3800 (and any other car as well).

With that comes the need to be a bit of a hardass when someone decides they are above the law of THIS land and we'll do whatever it takes for the greater good and continued sucess of the site.

Keep in mind, a web forum is not a democracy you cannot say/do whatever you want, and how you conduct yourself will be monitored.

Bill, Don and I will do what we have to do. If you don't like our methods, there is a back button at the top left of your browser. Use it.

For the rest of you...carry on. And maybe you should try and shake our hands in real life before condemning us (the BC staff) when we do what we have to do. You might be pleasantly suprised.

but boosty despite those beeady eyes and evil grin is a relly great guy (drove out of his way to pick me up for nybf) :)

I haven't ever met anyone on here, only gotten advice, but as far as mods seeming uptight at times, well
