How do I get our dog to stop barking when someone walks by the house or comes to the front door? I've heard that you're not supposed to yell at them but sometimes I want to choke him, especially during the night when we're all asleep. Here is a picture of the beast we're dealing with.

They make them bark collars. Gives 'em a little zap when they bark. The good ones have a setting where the occasional yip now and then gets allowed, but when they get a little overzealous, it reminds 'em you don't like it

He puts a choker chain on the dog and walks with the leash close and sort of tight. Everytime the dog barks, he would yank the chain and make a Shhhhhst sound and break the dogs concentration on whatever it was that he was barking at, but keeps walking, doesnt stop.

if sitting there, the same thing, as soon as the dog starts barking, yank the chain and make the Shhhst sound to break concentration. He mentioned in one episode not to talk to the dog while your training it.


It is pretty amazing how that guy can control anaimals.

I'm with the rest, buy a bark collar. There are the types that sense them getting ready to bark and will give them a little "boost" before they even do it.....

In all seriousness, tho, for some reason it seems like the smaller the dog, the more territorial they are and the more they bark. You may have to ignore the "Don't yell at them" advice (if it ain't too late). Or, lock him/her out of the front room somehow, so he/she don't know when people are passing by.

I've tried the collar and when we eventually took it off he started barking again.
We tried yelling at him and it doesn't even make him flinch.
We put him in a room but once he was let out he started doing the barking thing again.
If he'* sitting with us while watching TV when he thinks someone is walking by the house he will run to the front window and bark his *** off.

Do u get out a whole lot w/him......I've noticed that a dog that starves for attention barks alot.....we have 3 dogs......2 of the 3 start the whole barking thing all the time and haven't or don't get a whole lot of outside attention from strangers!!! Take him to friends and such so he'* basically like...."eh, it'* just another human" ????

People might get mad at me for this....but how about scaring him? When he starts to do it go up behind him, grab him real quick and sternly say no right in his face. Once over the psychological traumatization your dog may start to love you again
