I need a router! Any suggestions?
We bought a new Linksys one and it did not work, after our old Linksys router would go in and out. What suggestions do you guys have as far as what I should buy? I want to keep the price below $50.

Normal router or Broadband router?
On some Broadband connections, a normal router will not work. Broadband routers hide the computers from the broadband connection, so that the ISP thinks only one computer is connected. Normal routers don't, so they may not work for sharing a broadband connection.

I would recommend the Linksys WRT54GS with Sveasoft firmware if you need wireless. They are cheap and the Sveasoft firmware adds TONS of usefull features.
If you don't need wireless, I had an old Linksys 4port Broadband Router that my grandparents have now. The thing is over 6 years old now and still going like new. Linksys makes nice, affordable, and stable hardware. D-Link and Belkin have both let me down in the past with either hardware failures or corrupt firmware (necesitating a replacement). And I have never been a fan of the firmware on the Netgear routers as far as ease of use (compared with the Linksys or Sveasoft firmwares).
I am by no means a network guru, but I have setup MANY wireless and wired networks behind broadband providers. In all of them, Linksys has never let me down.

I have 2 of the Netgear 54g wireless routers, one at my apt and one at my parents and haven't had any issues. don't have model numbers cause the router is down 2 floors. I liked the Linksys 54g as well, as you can put linux on it and extend its functionality if you are into that.
