IE more secure than others

After all the talk about IE vulnerabilities, security researcher Michal Zalewski recently posted to the BugTraq newsletters that IE had performed better in his security test than its popular competitors such as Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Lynx and Links. Read about it here:

Especially with the SP2 upgrade, IE is VERY secure. I tried Mozilla Firefox for a brief period. I didn't like it. I think it's being way over hyped. All software has bugs. I will still feel safe using IE.

Well, I did a fresh install of IE and hopped on the internet to do updates. within a few minutes I already had popups and over 100 spyware programs installed just within a half hour of browsing online. I did another fresh install and did the same using MOzilla. Lets just say I won't be using Internet Exploiter anytime soon unless I have to. It is integrated into windows so it's far too easy for programs to install themselves from it.

in addition as I forgot to post above, the reason why IE probably performs better than other browsers is because it is using the entire operating system to function whereas other browsers are applications that run on their own to browse online. This is why they provide better security, but not always functionality. There are many sites that will not load on Mozilla but will on IE for me. It can be a pain but it's still not enough to make me want to use IE for my default web browser.

That's because some of your settings are allowing that stuff to install. And the websites you go to don't sound too safe.

:stupid:

Sounds like you like sites with browser hijackers. Stay off the porn sites!!

Kidding!! Kidding!!

Seriously, though, install SP2. It's awesome with the built-in popup blocker.

Firefox = the shit. IE doesn't even come close to comparing. Not to mention firefox is multi platform, so when I hop onto my linux box, I don't have a learning curve. That, and the tabbed browsing is sweet! Popup blocking = awesome spyware installs = nonexistant. There is NO reason why anyone should be using IE.

When you guys talk about SP2, that was the WORST SP ever! there is so much crap in that, it's not even funny. Plus, since I don't use xp anymore, and seldomly use 2k, what is there for people who use versions before xp? Think about their problems too.

IMO IE should be used by nobody.
