You know, me being the guy who likes Toyotas along with Bonnevilles, the Corolla has not always been a car that's "bad" to build up.

Known as the AE86, this RWD mid 80's Corolla sported a 1.6L DOHC motor in GT-S form. Nothing special for speed, but these things can be done up very nicely as drift and handling cars. They still may not be so fast, but they can hold their own... and their balance can be just amazing - able to beat R34 Skylines on winding roads. Definately not rice. HUGE aftermarket overseas, they've literally got a cult following in Japan.

If one's been done up, it's nothing to laugh at

IMO, 1993+ models got boring... whoever rices up a '94 5-speed deserves to be dragged out onto the road and shot, considering North America got no sporty version of that generation Corolla (which had ~160-170hp in a 5 valve per cylinder version of the AE86's motor)

But, in terms of humourous kills,

Right-Click, Save Target As

1989 Toyota Cressida versus 2000 Corolla. I quote the Cressida driver:

"this cocky corolla owner wanted to race me bad... he had no idea.. anyways he told me he was stock, but had "sports injection"

The Cressida was definately not stock, it had a japan-spec twin turbo motor put in. Now then, the motor itself was stock, and japan-spec Cressidas/Chasers came with this motor. Cars equipped with this motor have been known to pull 12's and 13's pretty easily with just under 300hp (276... if you believe the Japanese manufacturer's agreement  ). But still, the rice boys have no idea

this guy had a 1.6 dohc 2

They all have had a DOHC motor since the 80's.. it's just a matter of whether they're tuned for high output or economy. Looking at engine codes, you'll know it's a HO motor when it's the 4A-GE... economical, normal versions have the 4A-FE.
