Never shot an SW .500, but I have shot the similar (ok, bit less powerful) .454 Casull out of a Taurus Raging Bull....damn....large caliber handgun rounds are the shit.

The SW 500 is a hot load though, much more powerful than the .50 AE in the Desert Eagle. Plus it's fired from a revolver, not a pistol which absorbs some of the kick.

Those Kimbers are fucking nice 45s though.

Last time my Bro, my Dad, and I went to the range they had a S&W guy in with a bunch of demonstrators. A group of younger guys with a couple girls along tried out a 6" barrel 500. The thing cylinder-fired on one of them. The round in the firing position actually set off another round in the 4 o'clock chamber. Dude damn near got his arm ripped off by the double recoil. Sorry, but I don't need that much power.
Besides, if I really want to punish myself, I'll fire fifty rounds through my Bro's 7.62x54 Mosin-Nagant. Or drop a line to my buddy, and go fire one round through his .710 Express. Last time I fired a round with that damn thing, I was expecting a kick like a 12guage, and I ended up with a bruise from the top of my bicep damn near to my sternum.

I've got one for sale. Nickle finish, two magazines, reloading dies & brass. Fellow who owned gave it to me as the down payment on a CBR600F2 I was selling him.

I've shot it, and like the experience with the 500 S&W, it is painfull to shoot.

If you really want to get some enjoyment, get a base-model Colt .45, and start from scratch. You can build a $2k Wilson Combat .45 for about half the price. That's what I did. Only the frame and slide are original colt, nothing else, and the frame and slide are modified.

I did the same, twice. First one was an AMT Stainless Steel "Hardballer". Really cheap 1911 clone pistol, but the frame and slide were the only parts that were used in the finished pistol (finished pistol ended up chambered in 400CorBon) Second time was with a bare Essex frame and a Caspian slide (Still have that one, though it has a Ceiner 22cal conversion on it most of the time). In both example, you can build a slick, functional, 1911 for far less than what the custom guns retail for. Personally, I shoot a stainless steel Colt GCT with no mods other than a heavier trigger spring (the stock Colt spring made the gun double on anything other than light target loads.)

As to the 50AE, 500S&W, 454 etc. I personally wouldn't go out and buy one. I took one in on trade, but really, these are pistols with damn little functional use to them. They are pistols big enough to try to do the job of a rifle, but a rifle is always going to be better at it.
