Default Test drove 99 GTP yesterday

Me and my friend, being 16, its hard to find a dealership that will let 2 kids test drive a car. We were driving around until we found a black 99 gtp, obviously fully loaded. I always wanted to try one, since I have never been in an */C car. So its -30 here, and the car has been sitting for awhile. We get in after about 5 min of warm up, its still freezing. My friend slowly opens the throttle.......no.........trac low......ok

We get it up on the highway doing 120 km/h, and the tires spin. No traction because the tires are frozen. Anyways near the end when were going to bring it back, my friend opens it up doing around 80 km/h. This time the tires grip and the car shudders left to right torque steering before getting perfect grip then takes off. It has that little pull feeling. Unfortunately we couldnt do any full stop accels cause we would just spin.

Oh we also turned TC off, and floored it. I thought the car was screwing up because the revs kept going high, then down. Turns out we just went through 4 gears while crawling forward.....ooops...........Anyways lol, it was fun.

Well it looks like my friend is buying the car. It will be his first, since hes 16. Its a 1999 Grand Prix GTP, all black, tinted windows selling for 12,500$ with 96k km on it. Good deal? Me and him were both wondering what things need to be done to bring it back to stock performance, since after 96k km im sure it needs a little love.

When he gets the car, I know of a few things he could do to it, and for about $500 he could have a 290-300hp GTP instead of that measly 240hp it has stock. I'll be standing by. Let me know...

If that $12,500 is Canadian, its a good deal, if its US it isn't a horrible deal, but there are definately better deals out there.

But if I had $12,500 canadian or US I know what I would buy, because about a mile from my house a guy has a Silver '98 Camaro Z28 6 Speed, loaded with T-tops and everything. I don't know the mileage, but he wants $6650 for it, but I know the guy so I think I could probably get it for $6k or less. $6000 is a steal for ANY 6 speed LS1. I'm just trying to figure out where I can get the $$$ for it from! I don't care if it is rear wheel drive, that don't scare me, even with 6 inches of snow on the ground, because its a $6k low-mid 13 second car!!!

6,000 for a 98? thats a nice deal. Mine with a tosted v6 was 14,000 and the engine and tranny added alot... but hey... the insurance company doesnt need to know its an LT1, and not a L36... which saves alot in the end.

Funny, i don't know of a dealer that would let a 17 year old do any car like that.... Especially without a lot of cash on hand.

dbtk2 -Where is the 1998 LS1 6-spd??? I have had my eyes open for a long time looking for one of these for a fair price ($10-$11K). Now $6650 is beyond a steal. Whats wrong with it? Does it have a marked title? I'd be up for selling my SSEi to buy it and selling my SLE to make a 3 month insurance payment on it.
For sure, let me know -if memory serves me correct somewhere in OH or IN.
My 1999 Bonneville SSEi will be up for sale on Tuesday -given the LS1 is a clean car (no damage, no marked title, not beat up, and has fair mileage on it).

I don't know much about the car. It is about 2 miles, probably a little less, from my house, which is 5 miles south of Lansing, MI. I have no idea what is wrong with the car or the mileage on it, because I didn't see the car until yesterday, and there was nobody around so I couldn't see the mileage it had on it. (the odometer is digital) The guy has a dealer license so he buys cars at dealer auctions cheap, and then sells them for $1-2k more than he has in them. I looked over the car as well as I could, and it didn't appear to have any dings or scratches in it. It is silver, has 5 spoke wheels (they appeared to be factory), as I said already it is a 6 speed, and it has t-tops. The car didn't *appear* to have anything wrong with it, but it may need an engine, or a new clutch, or something major. I don't know, but it may not need anything. This guy usually finds a steal, then marks it up a couple grand so its still a steal, so he can make a lot of $$$. I can stop by his shop after school tommarow if I remember and get some details about it, and maybe get a few pics of it for you. (assuming I can't convince my parents to lend me the money for it before then)
