What car is perfect for this?
My Mom needs a new car... She'* got back problems so there'* some things it has to have.
It'* got to have a seat higher off the ground than my B, Yet shorter than a Chevy Van. Just a little shorter than a 80'* Chevy half ton.
It'* got to be cheap to maintain, It'* only got to go two miles a day.
It has to ride like a Lincoln Town Car. No sudden bumps. Ever.
a 4cyl with guts or a small V6. But a gas sipper.
So... What is it? I was thinking Suzuki Sidekick, But there are none in the area...

You arn't going to get any type of a smooth ride in that suzuki. I'd look more at a Honda CR-V or Toyota Rav 4. more reliable than a suzuki and isn't so hellbent to be a capable off roader.

I think that would ride decent, and be between the truck and the b-ville for seat height.
If money were no object though: Bonneville with a lift kit.

I'd pretty much agree with the idea of a minivan. My experiences with them usually are relatively smooth rides. I'm thinking with rising gas prices you might look into a hybrid SUV or minivan.
I'm thinking an Escape or maybe a VUE since they don't go for that much.

Escape? I don't even know what that is.... I mean like a $1500 car. She'* getting the last miles out of the '87 Conversion van they bought in '95.
And really.... Minivan does seem right, But that'* a lot of extra weight. The most people ever with her is 3, and some groceries.

The Ford Escape is Ford'* hybrid SUV. Well it comes in a hybrid edition, theres an all gas edition too.
For $1,500 you're definitely going have to hit the used market my man. I honestly don't know what to do besides a minivan without losing the extra needed height, without of course embarrassing yourselves with a rediculous lift on a sedan. I don't know will a wagon work?
I don't see how that could be better than a sedan though but I never drove one. Otherwise you could look at one of the smaller pick-ups and get a cab on it to keep the groceries dry. I did have a '90 nissan pickup with a cab that I paid $1 for.
Only other thought. See if a VW beatle would work out. They do have a nice verticle advantage to them. Women tend to think they're "cute" too so your mom might really like it. They've been out since 1998 and sticker for a new one is only around 18-19k so you might be able to come up with a decent 1998 one for not too much. I don't know if it will be quite as low as 1.5k though.

Look for a ford windstar. My mom has a 98 and loves it . You probably can get one cheap now a days. The windstar has 150k miles on the dial and hasn't run into any problems and the extra room always comes in handy
