Westbound Pontiac Bonnevile driven by 34 year old male collided with an eastbound 1999 Dodge Durango, witness told police it appeared the Pontiac began to skid on rain-slickened pavement as it rounded a curve and hit the Dodge Durango head on. Passenger from Bonneville was transported by Air Ambulance to Tupelo hospital, all others were transported to Corinth hospital. All occupants were restrained and both vehicles had dual air bags.

i think the bonneville got the worst of it...the front end is so demolished that its hard to tell if its an 87-91 or a 92-99!
i'm guessing the latter though....

willwren 05-22-2006 11:40 AM

Passenger compartment held up quite well.

As seen, the front ends are designed to crush and absorb the bulk of the impact, limiting the damage to the passenger compartment and those inside.

Bonneville92V688 05-22-2006 11:47 AM

Ouch. That's like putting my dad's car versus mine. He has a durango.... sadly.

Logan 05-22-2006 12:09 PM

Anyone know if that was a designed crumple zone in the roof of the Durango? If so its not in the best place IMHO.

1993 SLE 05-22-2006 12:22 PM

it was a 95+ bonneville

ga93sle 05-22-2006 12:24 PM

Yar, dual air bags.

SSE14U24ME 05-22-2006 12:26 PM

I didn't even recognize it as a bonneville when I read the paper. At least no one was killed. There was another wreck that happened about 20 minutes earlier somewhere else with a 99 ford taurus and a passenger died- none of those occupants wore their seatbelts.

That is an SE/SLE from the spacing of what's left of the fogs and the narrow cladding on the sides.

But from what I'm seeing, it could be anything from 92-99. Probably not a 92, as it would have to be an SSEi to have dual airbags.

driverjohn2005 05-22-2006 12:28 PM

And imagine that.... it's a white bonnie too!

:?

Arn't you contradicting yourself there? All bonnie's got dual airbags in 92....

Explr1 05-22-2006 12:40 PM

Don't you just love how the roofs on SUV's crush like coke cans?

No they didn't. Only the SSE and SSEi did. The SE never had duals.

My car doesn't have dual airbags.

Because you have an SE. SSE's and SSEi's had dual airbags in 92.

Bill...his car is a 93

Bil, 93 SE's didn't have dual airbags either.

I know, John said all Bonnies got them in 92.

Does "Wife and Mother in law" count????

You are so so so BAD!!! I'm gonna tell your wife on you :P

driverjohn2005 05-22-2006 02:43 PM

Hm, I thought all bonnies 92+ had dual airbags... I'm gonna go check

Echo SSEI 05-22-2006 02:51 PM

My 94 SE/SLE only had the single in the steering wheel...nothing in the passenger dash.

willwren 05-22-2006 02:51 PM

Jseabert's 93 SSE doesn't, but most did. No SE from 92/93 will. Apparently not all 93SLE's as well, if any.

Not sure when duals started, but my loaded 95SLE has duals, as does my 93SSEi.

driverjohn2005 05-22-2006 02:56 PM

INTERESTING...

Looks like it was standard on SSEi's in 92, as you said, and then it was included in an option group on SSE "1SB" models...

MOS95B 05-22-2006 03:00 PM

When did the dual airbags requirement come into effect? That could be the reason it was an option up to a certain year.

I belive it was 1997 :?:

banned3800 05-22-2006 03:05 PM

I believe in 1995 dual air bags were standard on all bonnevilles across the board ;)

And I think your right Driver... It may have been 97..
