Default I need chainsaw purchasing advice

Well, here I am all set up with my new woodstove I absolutely LOVE this thing. I love that I can have my house at almost 90 degrees and not cost me anything more then some effort and a little gas for a truck and chainsaw

The ONLY problem is that I don't have a chainsaw. My neighbor has four of them, but three are currently down which makes it a challange for the two of us to get firewood at the same time.

I would like to spend around $300 for a chainsaw, maybe more if it is worth the extra money.

I have heard that Husqvarna is a good brand, I looked at a Poulon at Home Depot also.

Basically, I will be mostly cutting logs up to one foot in diameter, but more on occasion. I want a reliable saw ( of course ) that won't bog down on me half way through a log and also has good serviceability.

What would you recommend?

My dad has two of them, I think they're Husk(toolongtorememberhowtospell), they're the orange ones.

They're probably 10-15 years old and has not failed on us, just need gas, gear oil and blade (when needed) and it'* good to go.

I say Husqvarna also. My neighbor has one and has had it for probably 10-15 years also.

Anything else I would recommend Stihl.

What an ironic thread!!! I just went through this last week. Check out my thread here:

EXACT same boat as you. You'll quickly find that Husky, Stihl, Dolar, and Echo are the top of the line brands. Stay away from all others.

Read my three page thread over there.

I followed their advice to a certain extent. Went with something smaller. Snagged this on Christmas Day since there was virtually NO competetion:

I think I got a good deal. My secret is to shop on Christmas eve evening and all day Christmas Day. You wouldn't believe some of the scores I've gotten on those two days!

I read your thread and seen the ebay link, pretty good deal IMO.

I think that I would agree with your purchase also. I too am really looking at an Echo, this one new from Home Depot.
Echo 18 In. 45.0CC Gas Chainsaw

I am going to shop around and see if I can find one cheaper though.

Funny..... even the internet is a small world

That one from the Desperate looks like a good buy.

If you go back to my thread, the 440 was a recommended model too!

Since we have the same end goals in mind, it'* definitely one to consider.

I have nothing but cudo'* for my 10yr old Poulan. It was a factory refurb I picked up for $80. 16" 33cc. Starts right up and I only use it once every few years.

hmm, I looked just about everywhere I can think of online, and everyone is within about $20 of Home Depots price. But, I don't have to wait for it from Home Depot.... as long as they have it in stock.

I think this is the one I am going to end up going with. All the reviews I have read on it so far have been very good about it having enough power for all but the very large trees and reliability as well.

I may end up going with a better / more expensive saw in a few years, I believe it would be better to have a backup anyways just in case. :P
