Default careerer change ?

i have the opportunity to become the re-con manager at a high volume dealership .
with asmutch as i like cars it sounds like a hell of a lot of fun I'm waiting on the word of the pay I'm thinking if it is the same or better than what i'm making driving i might go for it .

on a side note
I'm still not sure my current boss is the best person i have ever worked for so i don't want to burn that bridge as well .
we are short handed as it is and if i take that job than he will be even more in the hole than what he is now

side note : we lost one driver due to him drinking and being on drugs behind the wheel

it is getting harder to find people wanting to get there CDL around here just most old guys and they are starting to through in the towel and retire so we are getting less and less

don't get me wrong i love my job but some times people just suck at the driving around big vehicles and it gets to me pretty bad at times any how that is my day today so far :?:

Y'know, I sometimes find myself wanting to do a career change too. I think I have done several in my lifetime (which ain't very long to be honest). As a teen, I took the normal teen jobs...namely fast food, music stores, and theme park stuff. Then I went into the Navy and worked for the NSA...that was quite a switch from what I was doing before Afterwards, I went into the automotive side of things...worked at both Autozone and Advance, and worked at a Ford dealership as a tech. Then after I graduated school (finally), I have since been into aviation training. Now I am seriously considering augmenting my degree with another in aerospace. With space tourism on the horizon, I am sure whoever will be in the space fleet will need simulators (which is what I do now) to keep the FAA happy, and will be more than willing to pay for the people to maintain and upgrade them

I guess what I am getting at is this: we, as human beings, have started realizing that we outgrow many other things than just our clothes. Career paths are changing so much nowadays it'* hard to say you even have a career, since nobody is around that job long enough (though the jobs could change, the field those jobs are in may very well be the same).

Duff, do what you think is best for YOU. You only live once, right? The only way to get the most out of it is to make the right choices. If you feel it'* right, then "all ahead full" on the change.

I couldn't be a driver for a living, unless it was way out in the boonies. I hate the way people drive. AT least in my caar, I know my limits and/or how far I could push them. No way I want to make a living driving someone else'* vehicle, unless I could be promised I would never have to go into a big city. Ever....

I dunno MOS, my dad has been with Roadway for many many moons (I know over 30 years worth of moons), and driving for 20 of them. Mostly in Nashville traffic. But he has no gray hairs from it. Actually, he has no hair now.

Maybe that'* the reason why he is bald. I hope that is the reason why he is bald...my hairline is making it'* way north now

Great advice! I could be wrong, but the last I heard, most people change careers an average of five times during their life. Money isn't everything. Find something you really enjoy and can live comforably at! Enjoy life

Duff, If the money is right go for it. You your self know that construction work has its slow periods. If you dont like it you can always go back to driving dumps.
