Default Quick Question on Digital Cameras

I know I am not done with the users guide yet, but for my new camera it seems that the pictues are a lot clearer then my parrents old 3.2MP (obviously 4.0MP vs. 3.2MP) but for some reason my pictures are always smaller in file size, even on high res, then the sony? I am not saying this is a bad thing, but can someone explain this? The sony usully had a file size of around 1.2mb per pic and the kodak seems to be around .5mb per pic, both on hi-res setting... :? Thanks!

Probably a different JPEG com[pression routine being used. Play with a photoshop program, and you'll notice you can save under different compression rates depending how how much storage you want to use. The quality difference is negligible unless you're really, really picky

That was hard to explain with a hangover....
