HELP! Need technical printer help. *FIXED!* (no 56k!!!)

Ok This is a HP Deskjet 970Cxi. The service station grinds. I am adding a video soon.

Scroll...down for the fix.

Probably full of ink. You need to look at the gears. They may be gummed up. Use a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl) and water. Some disassembly may be required. ;)

That's a damn good printer series. I bet you have alot of miles on it.

wjcollier07 02-03-2007 12:44 AM

Haha, bill, you basically just summed up my video

Its too big and I can't upload it umm. For now it stopped grinding.

It IS full of ink, big globs. Uhh, thats exactly what I was asking in my video, is if i should take it apart and clean it or if i should just replace it.

haha, you would bet right on....it does have about 12,000 pages on it, so yeah, lol, i got some miles on it, and YES it is a DAMN good printer series. This thing is bulletproof, I've had it since new in 1999 and it has served me well for all those years, I use it all the time for absolutely everything.

The gears are not having any problem moving...whats actually happening is that the movement sensors are not reporting right to the computer, and the motor is pushing the slider too far back and forth. My guess is that the sensors have ink on them and are not working right because of that.

I am uploading the video to my server right now for anyone who feels like downloading it.

I cleaned a few things. at first i thought it was the belt motor making that noise so i cleaned the print carriage tracking ribbon because i noticed that it had ink on it and was therefore messing up my prints because it was scanning wrong. well now thats fixed and it stopped grinding for the time being. which it has been for the past 2 years, intermittently being annoying. so we'll see, but i have no doubt believing that with a good cleaning of the service station that it will be fixed for good.

i will post the vid asap.

Ill get back to you on what wrong when it finished downloading... ... ...

bandit 02-03-2007 02:09 PM

John... Come on man

Just clean it all up so it has no ink anywhere and it should work just fine. Unless a Motor got stressed out by the ink and is now dieing. but most likely if you clean it all up it should work Allot better ;)

I have nearly the same exact printer, 970Cse and its doing the same exact thing. Right now I get by from just hitting the next page button on the printer, after a second or third time it prints. I haven't had time to take mine apart due to school and lack of a screwdriver, but its definitely the gears. You need to take it apart.

wjcollier07 02-03-2007 04:16 PM

Well psh. fine

I'll clean it, i'm just was making sure that it is worth my time. and that maybe its not a bad sensor.

wjcollier07 02-03-2007 09:48 PM

FIXED!!!! tonight i took it all apart and cleaned it out completely.

Heres some pics.

Started out like this.....

SOOO, it got cleaned. I mean, REALLY, REALLY cleaned. Everything in the ink collector in the service station was so covered in ink that there was absolutely NO contrast to anything, I thought EVERYTHING was already black to begin with, wow, was I WRONG.

and how did it run after all that?

Perfect? 8)

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f...h_DSCN2715.jpg

Anyone who has this problem with this printer series, i DEFINITELY recommend cleaning that out, it runs like brand new again. It saved my printer from the trash and really looks harder than it actually is.
