Default Bye Bye GTP... for now

Got bad news today. Mom'* Sable either blew the head gasket or cracked a head. Either way she'* looking at a very costly repair (2-3 thousand) when trade in value is only about 6. We don't have the money for a new car and no matter what my parents do (fix it, scrap it, trade it, sell it) it'll put them down a vehicle for a period of time. I head back to school Sunday and had been planning on taking my car with me but mom needs to get to work and needs it more than I do so I said she could have it for the time being. Sucks that I'd been looking forward to having my car all summer, now it looks like I'll be at least a couple weeks without one. Which means I have to give up my off-campus job and now need to find a new one Oh well, maybe mom will replace it with something cooler than a sable

Those engines are notorious for head gasket failure, so thats probably what it is.

I still have a hard time envisioning how a head gasket replacement would cost 2-3000 dollars, thats just insane.

Is it not a DIY job or something?

I'm sure you could fix the sable for around $1000 with a hole in the wall-style repair shop that could swap a used JY motor in.

If its a Vulcan 3.0, they are known for cracking heads... They will not tolerate running hot at all... Its not hard to crack heads on the 3.0.... The 3.0 is a good motor...

If this is a Duratech 3.0 that will be another headache altogether
You are right I thought they fixed the 3.0 problem by then. Wonder if it would be cheaper to put an entire rebuilt engine in there?

It'* a 24 Valve DOHC, 2001, that'* all I know right now. I am not sure on the price exactly of the head gasket repair just going by 2nd hand word. It'* not work my dad or I can do though.

Bad news: My SES light came on, MAF problem.

Good news: Fixed it by cleaning the MAF and battery connections.
