grumble, grumble, grumble....
 

The brakes on the Explorer had been squeeking a little the past week but I thought I would deal with it after I get back from Maui in mid-July. Went to leave for work this afternoon, steped on the brakes at the end of my developments road, and it was making a grinding sound :?: :shock: :evil:

Took a look, front discs looked fine, plenty of pad. The rears were a different story:

-the drivers side, pad is very thin and the disc is starting to get rough

-The passanger side. Pad is damn near non-existant and the disc has 1/8" indent going around it :shock: :shock: :shock: :roll: :evil:

I guess I have my work cut out for me tommarow....

that happened to my family's 96 pontiac transport van... started grinding, and of course being lazy we looked at the pad through the rims and the front was fine, but we jacked it up and the back pad was completely gone, kind of scary, the rotor was messed up bad.

Haha, I drove my first car (in my avatar pic) for months with grinding breaks. Probably a bad idea looking back on it. :lol:

I'll ending up new rotors and pads, possibly calipers too.... we'll see. I'll probably post more pics tommarow during the teardown :roll:

well it was a $300 car and I pretty much just needed it to get to school and back. I wasn't going to/ couldn't put any money into it. But you on the other hand... :roll: haha

There are times when two cars can be a frustrating liability. Other times, it's very convenient.

I'll have to admit to being one of those that doesn't like to constantly check my brakes. I tend to let them go too long instead of using a regular maintenance schedule.

So far I've been lucky, but statistics say I'm due for trouble one of these days, lol. :roll: :lol:

have fun john, that is NOT a fun job......

those rear disc brakes on explorers are generally a PITA to change, your also very likely going to destroy your parking brake shoe during disassembly if your not REALLY careful

I'm sure you can guess at least one of the pads belonged to what rotor :roll:

I bet that heavy load last week didn't help. ;)
