The Great Global Warming Swindle.

This is a really interesting documentary that the BBC published regarding global warming. It attempts to disprove that humans are the cause, and it does a very good job of it. It addresses some of the issues Al Gore raised with 'An Inconvenient Truth' (around 18:20) and disproves them. It's long, but completely worth the watch.

I can't see it, 'cause of my blazing fast internet speed, but I too feel it's just a scam. What power do we really have over the enviroment? I don't think people think that the earth just NATURALLY heats up. And the scam artists promoting it create more of these "greenhouse gases" with their private jets and mansions in one year than the average person can create in a lifetime! And just because they buy "carbon credits" or whatever they are, it makes it all better. It's a bunch of fear-mongering bullshit in my opinion.

I think people spend too much time arguing over this subject rather than taking the time to actually do something about it.

There are too many things in this world we do to destroy nature and pollute (sucking up the oil supply, cutting down rainforests and primary growth forests, etc). Whether we are greatly affecting the natural cycle of the world or not is irrellavent. People should focus on alternative solutions to our actions rather than have politicians argue about it.

This topic usually interests me. I'm no scientist, and don't know who's really right on the matter (but I tend to side with the people that say BS on it).

The thing that really makes me mad on this is that when the environmentalists bark at people for using gas and oil. They can stand their barking about it, but what have they done to create an alternative fuel? So if I stop using gas, then what do I use instead? What is readily available to use instead? I just don't like the guilt trips they try pulling...

That's the point, they don't have answers because they are not looking to fix anything. These people are anti-capitalist, they are using the environment as a vehicle. They want you to burn wood for heat (just don't chop any trees down) and use horses for transportation (just don't abuse them). Do you know how filthy the streets were when horse and cattle were the main mode of transportation? But that doesn't concern them because that isn't the point.

yup. I've been very silent lately, but every once in awhile I have to vent. (back to lurk mode)

When you get a chance you should really watch it....it covers every point you just made.

What do you all think of the video itself, though? So far I've just read personal opinions on global warming and nothing regarding the video :).

ten_gigahertz 03-13-2007 03:04 PM

Yeah, mine was all personal opinion. I'm at work waiting for my manager to go home so I can watch it...

That's not the case at all. That's just polarizing a group of people, much like the politicians and political parties like to do with people.

I'm all for a change, but does that make me anti-capitalist? I don't have the answers, but I am aware of the situation and want to look for answers.

Believe me, I don't want to give up the gasoline engine, but as a society we should be looking for alternate ways to be more friendly to the environment. The technology is out there, and it has been out there for a long time. Many businesses don't want to use it, and many politicians don't want to pursue those options (I won't get in to the lobbyist BS, that's getting off topic.)

So, global warming or not, we shouldn't be sitting here proving or disproving it. That's for scientists ... not the media, not the politicians, not the businesses.

I don't even know what point I'm trying to make. I'm just as confused about this issue as the next person.

TrueWildMan 03-13-2007 06:10 PM

Hehe, whether global warming is true or not, we're poisoning the air. Now that no one can debate. People die by inhaling exhaust fumes.

It has zero to do with politics, or capitalism, or even religion. We're poisoning the air, and we breathe it. The bigger the city, the worse the health of the general population.

Now, if I gave you a glass of pure, sparkling clean water, and I told you that I only put one mere drop of a deadly poison in it, would you drink it?

VigCS 03-13-2007 08:16 PM

Just watch the video :D. It clarified my view on global warming.

Andx0r 03-13-2007 09:37 PM

Regardless of whether or not we are causing global warming with our actions, it would be ridiculous and utterly moronic to claim that human activity is changing the Earth for the better. We're still polluting and damaging every single natural facet of this place, regardless of whether or not we're changing the climate.

It seems to me like global warming, whether or not it is real, is the next 'abortion issue' or 'gay rights issue'. Sure, the stuff is sort of important, but not on the level that it gets presented as in the media. Its just another set of words for stupid talking heads and politicos to lock horns over and feed the media and public, distracting the country and the world from the more important things, like war, international relations, the rates of employment, and economic/trade policy, to name a few.
