Grand Am oil monitor

We got the oil changed in my wife's 04 GA with the 3400 three weeks ago after 4500 miles without the "Change oil" light coming on. Yesterday, with just under 1000 miles since the oil change, the light came on. The level, color, smell, and feel are all good. Wacky sensor?

did you reset the oil life monitor when you changed the oil?

J Wikoff 03-18-2006 07:39 PM

Didn't think it could be reset. Nothing I saw in the owner's manual said anything about it. I musta missed it.

Someone on GAownersclub gave me the fix a moment ago. Thanks.

and it was to do what?

Turn the key on, press a reset button in the driver side fuse box so the oil light comes on. Then press and hold till it goes out.

woot...I was right

I could have told you that :). Mine is so off right now though, it's kinda not really all that helpful.

Does it actually monitor the oil or does it just go off after so many miles?

If it is even half of what the corvette uses, you are mostly wrong.

I would assume it would be similar systems.

I know for a fact the corvette monitors, temp on start, gear you are in, rpms, warm up time, duration of trip, exterior temp, and so many more factors that I can't remember.

edit: and my dad's tahoe's system is similar to the corvette. when I romped it off road the OLM dropped multiple % and we only added a mile or two to the odo.
