Make sure your car is locked, and you have enough insurance coverage for the belongings in your house. If you have something that is truly irreplaceable, make sure it'* in a safe place.
Never hurts to take some pics of any odd cars/people in the neighborhood. I wouldn't say be paranoid, be obvious. Let people see you out taking pictures.
