going too far??

TSA screener make woman remove nipple rings.

Well, I guess you never know. I hear that nipple rings are the new weapon of choice for domestic terrrorists.

Gumball 03-29-2008 09:38 PM

this should be a poll.

Yes I believe they went to far. No I'm not a nipple ring person per say, but I believe we need our rights back.

making her remove them after confirming what they were is just ridiculous.

on the other hand. I also believe. if you know you have something on you that will draw attention and make a hold up. shame on you.

That is to going to far.

if it would have been me I would have made a huge deal about it and just whipped up my shirt right there and been like ok I'll take em out

I wonder if they are going to start doing that with the "down there" piercings too

I will agree that the TSA people royally screwed up on this one, but I also think she was unconscionably stupid for not realizing that they would be an issue.

champ5601 03-29-2008 11:44 PM

Lets just say I went through security last year with some jewelry and had no torubles. Of course, they probably took 1 look at me and said hell with it, I dont need to see that.

PontiacMom 03-30-2008 01:23 PM

I have piercing, other than my ears, and I have never had to remove them when I have flown. I think the TSA person was just being a jerk, and wanted to look at the woman. I see him getting fired.

Or quietly transferred somewhere else. However I don't think you'll see TSA ever apologizing for this or even admitting any wrong doing.

That's not exactly what I had in mind, but since this is a family forum with a lot of YOUNGER people on here.

jwakamud 03-30-2008 06:07 PM

both sides were wrong here, i think.

she was an idiot for not realizing that they might be an issue.

they were idiots for letting it get to that point.

glorkar 03-30-2008 08:08 PM

TSA was totally at fault. There is no way that nipple rings set off those sensors. I should know, I have one. Went through just fine. Same goes for earrings. I've never had to take them out. And IIRC, policy states that if the possible threat is verified visually they can okay it. They didn't have to make her take them out. I think it was a blatent case of invasion of privacy, discrimination and even possibly sexual assault. I think that she should totally press charges. She would have my support.

Shadow 03-30-2008 08:24 PM

She should have known better and had them taken off ahead of time. Lesson learned I say.

PontiacMom 03-31-2008 11:37 AM

Some piercings you can not take out or else they will heal over quickly. My tongue for example, the bar cannot be left out for more than half an hour or it will start to heal. It also depended on when she got the piercing done. Was it a fresh piercing, and what gauge steel was used?? Still there are several thousand people who fly with piercings and you don't ever hear about them having to remove them.

Why was she singled out?? If it were such a big deal, it would happen more and more, and then those people with piercings would be warned ahead of time.

Ms. Sixty 03-31-2008 10:33 PM

I don't see how it is her fault at all. The piecings aren't WMD or anything stupid like that. I'm not taking my dang piercings out for anyone. They don't set off the detectors there isn't that much metal in them to do so. You can see by the picture how small they are.

The wand is more sensative and my bra hooks have set that off before, but I think the guy was a perv and just held it there until it beeped because then he had to practically feel me up to make sure I wasn't lying about wearing a bra
