GM engine families

I pride myself in keeping up, but a couple of questions: If the DOHC 3.5 was the Shortstar, where did this 3.6 come from? Also this new 3.9 that will be seen in the '06 Impala, etc. ? Is this yet another iteration of the P.O.S. 2.8/3.1/3.4/3.5 pushrod? If so. why?

Don't totally agree with the POS designation, but yeah, it is.

OK, we're getting our 3.5s mixed up. The 3.5 DOHC (shortstar) IS a good engine. I'm referring to the pushrod 3.5 that you'll find in the new Malibu, etc. I'm just trying to find the origin of the new 3.6 that is the optional engine in the Lacrosse.
Don't want to start a border war or anything!

maybe the 3.6 is brand new :?

3.5 OHV is the "Budget" v6, it's made in China I believe. Still damn fine.

The 3.6VVT is made here, and has much better output. This is the midrange V6, with the 3,9 being the top dog next year or two.

err, the 2.8/3.1/3.4/3.5 OHV/3.9 OHV motors are one family

GM used to make a 3.4 DOHC motor, the one that screwed SSEimatt93 over just days after he bought his Oldsmobile (Cutlass, not the Alero - which had the 3.4 OHV) - this motor truly is a piece, IMO, I mentioned of it before he bought the car and wasn't surprised afterwards

The new 3.6L DOHC/VVT is likely all-new.

Good thing I have the '3100' and not the " POS 3.1" (MPFI)
