Default Holy Crap, Invisible Fence Collars are expensive

So I lost the Dogwatch Invisible Fence collar for my dog. Searched around on Ebay, and there were whole systems that were almost new and all worked. I wasnt going to pay more than $100 w/ shipping since I though a brand new collar straight from Dogwatch would be cheaper. So I bid on a few but I was outbided. Wait a few days, and the others I was watching go out of my price range also.

So today I call the Dogwatch dealer, tell them that it is lost and the system number, he comes back saying a new collar with everything on it is $249 So now I don't know what to do, there are no collars on ebay that are the right number, and there are no new systems.

The model I have is the 300, if anyone has one or finds something... Im just pissed because I can't find anything at the right price and my dog keeps running away.

Train the dog and he'll stay in the yard.

Invisible fence and stuff is simply a band aid for a dog that doesn't mind properly.

Barney never ran out of the yard and there'* no invisible fence.. although I bet you are going to say stuff dinosaurs don't run fast....aren't ya?

He was trained, but now he knows he never has the collar on and just wonders out of the yard.

And for the Barney statement:

It may be worth it to go buy and barney and set him on fire and videotape it

Spend the time training your dog..

Each trained dog I know of doesn't decide to change his mind about training.

The problem isn't in the dog'* training, it'* in the way you trained him.

You MUST switch collars around for at least a couple weeks randomly. 3-5 different collars, eventually spending more and more hours with the radio collar.

Then when the dog is locked up inside, you put out the marker flags and turn the fence on.

The dog then associates the vibration, beep, or shock with the little line of flags, not the collar. Over the next couple weeks, you slowly remove a flag or two until none remain. The dog will remain trained to the 'zone'.

Once I get a new collar or system I will probaly get some flags and redo the whole traning. He (the dog) has just relized slowly that he doesn't get shocked when he leaves his boundries, so now he just walks by like its not there.

It may be too late already. Once you allow the dog to make the association, he won't ever forget. You may need to look at some other type of restraint at this point.

The training for invisible fences is critical. You only get one chance to get it right.
