A friends Dodge ram

Today I was talking with a co worker. He has a Dodge Ram diesel, and it's far from stock. He has a huge turbo and a 6" exhaust. Ya, you read that right, 6". It looks like a anaconda is living under the truck. He said he was going down the high way with the cruise set at 72, he was hauling his 5th wheel and behind that was his boat. As he was driving he said the cruise stuttered a bit. He was about to turn off the cruise and the radio to hear what was going on. Before he could do that there was a huge bang, then more loud noises that defy description. He shut the engine down and pulled over. Dead.
Attachment 29180 I must say, I was surprised at how thin the flex plate was on such a big truck. |
WOW!!!!! Ya 4" is stock for my Cummins 5.7L . Musta been some turbo..... Did the tranny lock or??? That kind of carnage just couldn't happen cruising along? The transmissions behind the Dodge Cummins in notoriously weak for the torque applied to it. Mines a 94 with 130K, and I feel real lucky it's still tight.

He wrecked one trans already. That blew just on cruise.

I change the fluid and filter every 30k. And tow a 8,600Lb Boat. But knowing about the weak tranny, I really take it easy with it behind me.

A fifth wheel and a boat geez

Um,..... No, but it does have rooftop deck. My next project when the truck's done. I have to get it unwrapped, and down the the dealer for some service before I hit the lake. The solenoid broke off the starter. That pics was taken in the canal between two of the Finger Lakes. Cayuga and Seneca. Pretty cool trip. You have to go through a set of locks to traverse the two.
