Default calling all computer whizzes

on my mom computer every time she tries to open Internet Explorer she gets an error that says "Iexplore has caused an error in URLMON.DLL Iexplore will now close..." its done this before and usually it seems to fix itself after scanning for spyware, scandisking, and defragging, well this time it didnt. now whats even more odd is her home page was msn.com and it would do this when loading that page, i switched her home page to google and it seems to work just fine, in fact im posting this on her computer right now, but as soon as i go to msn.com it does the same thing again.....any ideas?

heres what ive done so far:
ran AdAware
ran Spybot *&D
ran RegClean
ran Scandisk
ran Defragmenter

well the one article doesnt apply because it said that occurs after installing HP stuff which nothin has been installed on it, and the other one only applies to Windows 95 and 98 and that computer has ME(sorry i shouldve mentioned that earlier) but thanks for taking the time to look for stuff.

id like to just give the thing a clean re-install with like 98 or somethin cause i dont think it would run XP and i dont have a copy of XP anyway except for the one that came with my Dell....but i could always "obtain" a copy i suppose.

do you think it would run XP? it has a 400mhz processor with 256 megs of RAM.

This might be kind of late, hopefully you haven't reinstalled yet.

This isn't a guaranteed fix, but it won't even take you 2 minutes, so it is worth a try.

1. Search C:\ and find urlmon.dll. Go to the directory that it is in.
2. Download the file.

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...*.shtml?urlmon

3. Paste into the directory that you found the file in. If that .dll is the problem, that SHOULD fix it.

I have done similar things a few times.

400Mhz is plenty to run Win2000 which is one of my favorite operating systems on the windows branch.

yeah i actually thought about doing that, itll be like running the gauntlet though to get that sucker downloaded with our connection....first off its dial-up, then you get disconnected from time to time, usually because even if you tell ppl not to pick up the phone they still do it anyway, and then i think something with our phone line seems to corrupt large files so this should be fun

Heh, way off course here, But my buddy was just telling me about how his mom would pick up the phone every hour or so to see if he was online, That took him a while to diagnose...

Personally I like opera better. I think it has cooler features.
