FINALLY!!

so i finally got my license...well sorta i passd the test but their computers wer down so i have to go back and get it printed out but i did pass!! im so happy, ive been waiting for this moment my entire life! ne ways, i went to the car lot and talked to the guys ther bout the '85 318i and its in great shape, and i can afford it. it runs strong and they are very flexible on payments, they are bi-weekly but its based on my income, itl b 150 buks a check and i'll have it payed off in a yr. they said that if i need the money to fix the car that they can hold the payment till the next paycheck with no penalties, wierd stuff like that, that u dont expect from a dealer, the owner of the place also said that i culd jst hold liability on it instead of full coverage. my stepdad said it sounds fishy but everyone says its a good place and its jst a little private lot...my parents want me to wait til they have read the contrct and send ther friend to go chek it out....idk, the car runs strong and i hate wen my parents intervene, i kno they jst want to help me but i have my mind set...so unless i find a reason worth not getting this car, i think im gonna do it. i am a little worried bout it being expensive to fix ( which i kno it will b) but the dealer offers to get u parts at a dealer price.....what do u guys think?

Man....Congrats m8, i am very happy for you. I waited for my license since i was 12 i just couldn't wait to get in a car and drive. At 15 i was driving around in europe and since i have been hooked. I started highschool in grade 7 since i went to an art school, i never once had an average over 60%. Both my parents knew i had a brain but that i never wanted to use it..i was always too busy skipping class and playing with "grass" (great times) anyway my last year of high school(grade 12) i made a bet with my father. I told my dad that if i got on the honor roll(average over 80%)and graduated he would have to buy me a car. My dad agreed and months later i recieved my first car, 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood D'elegance. I still have the car to this day. :D

Congratz on getting the license 8)

Run as fast as you can away from the BMW. Get a Binneville. Cheaper to fix and all the help ya could want at your fingertips ;)

As mentioned in a previous post -

NO. I owned a BMW,a '87 325is, and parts cost forced me to sell it. It would have cost me over $400 to do a simple tune up. Even small parts are highly expensive and would make you crap yourself at the costs.

Plus the 318i is very slow, only around 108hp, and most people buy them to drop in a 2.5 I-6 or similar engine anyways, as they are very sluggish.
As I said, don't do it. ;) oyu'll learn very quickly if you do buy it. The 1.8 is notorious for eating head gaskets.

$3900 seems a bit steep for an 85 even if its a BMW.

Get your motorcycle license and get a sportbike.

sounds EXTREMELY fishy. Get a written contract posted here before anything.

explain to me how you can pay off a $3900 in 1 year with $150 payments, that is only $1800.

the payments are biweekly...idk sounds fishy to me to and i dont wanna pay that much....sry guys..mayby if i found a bville wit a manual tranny id take it but im lookin for sumtin diff....i found a couple jettas that would be nice. ---thanks for the advice

Try to find yourself a 3800 F-body. Good old L36, and you can get a manual trans if you look hard enough. And there's plenty of them on the road that have lasted several hundred thousand miles, so you don't have to guess at their reliability.
Besides, they're tons of fun, and aftermarket is plentiful if you get a few extra bucks here and there.
