Default 4.3 restriction or not?

Has anyone here ever worked on a 96+ CSFI 4.3? If so, is this restrictive and can it be removed? It seems to me it would be a major restriction, and can gain power if removed.

The butterfly valve? :?

Can you better describe what you want to remove? Or take better pics.

It is a half moon shaped piece that is mounted to the TB plate, and when the butterfly is opened, it 3/4 blocks one side of where the air flows through when it is in the WOT position.

That is a piece mounted to the TB plate? It almost looks like part of it is bent. Hard to see exactly in the pics though.

I cannot see the pics, thanks mr. firewall , but there should be 2 rivets on top of the butterfly and that "restricter" will pull off.

Just becareful that you do not drop that into the intake. It will be an all day job getting it out if you do

I noticed that piece on my fathers Blazer, wondered what it was supposed to be for. My final thought as I was cleaning it was for noise reduction, so I cleaned it up good and left it at that. They used to have a 93 blazer with a different style of intake, and I always thought it had deeper lungs than the newer one.

maybe Jrs3800 knows? or there is a site called blazerforum that may know?

Default I researched

I researched on it, and it is safe to remove. Apparently they put it there to KILL low end power, since people that test drove them at GM were surprised by the low end power in '96 when the CSFI 4.3 was debuted, so engineers decided to put that air deflector on there to kill low end power. I was told to shave it off as close to the blade as possible, and then feather it out so it will flow good past where I cut it off. Many told me not to drill out the rivets, as it causes high idle with the 2 holes open where the rivets used to be.

not sure I buy that..why would they want to KILL low end power?

I guess the low end power came on too harshly and would jerk the truck harshly, so they decided to deflect the air flow.

I once drove a early-mid-ninties Jimmy that was EXTREMELY jerky just off throttle. The owner explained he pulled some big blockage out of the throttle body the day before. Maybe this is what he was talking about.

Me? I'd remove it and get used to being light with low throttle.
