Default Camera guys: good deal?

Merry Christmas to me if I get it.

I looks to be a good deal to me. Hopefully I am first in line for it.

By "58mm" lens they probably mean the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens that is tradtionally standard on Rebels. 58mm is just the front filter size, lol.

If it'* in good shape, for 300 bucks you can't go wrong. Ask the seller about how many shutter actuations the camera has seen. This can usually be estimated by the file name/number of the images...

thanks for the tip. when I talk to him, I might sound like I know what I'm talking about. if its over a certain amount, should I stray away? I called him and have not received the call back yet.

With only a 1GB card and the 58mm thing, I figure that he'* not too serious a photographer and probably hasn't used the camera as much. Not sure how many shutter actuations the Rebel XT is rated for, anywhere between 50,000-100,000 is my best guess.

The 18-55mm lens is a decent kit lens when used outdoors. Stop the aperture down to f/8 and you'll do really well with it. Unless you get more serious with your shooting you probably will be fine with it for 90% of the time.

Ask to take a picture of a blank wall. If you can, take a picture of a white wall with the highest aperture setting, then the lowest. Then take a long exposure of the dark. This is to test for debris on the CCD and hot pixels. All major factors in a used DSLR.
